When playing Resident Evil 4 on Wii, should there be a .5"-1" black border around the screen or should it fill it completely? I have everything set to widescreen & 480p (using component cables) and the menu looks fine, but once I start the game there's a border around the screen.

Is that how its supposed to be?

Huh. Weird.

Oh well, still a really good game.

That was a prob with the gc version, but last I heard they corrected it for the wii.

Yah the GC version didn't have true 16:9. It just had a cropped 4:3 mode that made it 16:9 on a 4:3 but had black bars on it.

That's a shame they didn't do anything to fix it. Sounds like it's a straight up control port of the game then.

Is the border all the way around the screen or just the two bars top and bottom?

If it's all the way around the screen, your TV just overscans very little, and theres not a damn thing you can do to change it unless you want to dig into service mode.

Its all the way around the screen.

Is this somethign that happens on other Wii games, or is it just because RE4 isn't really 16:9?

I believe this is on a lot of the Wii games. I think they do this for the purposes of overscan which would crop the top edges and sides of the screen. This would hide parts of the picture that are generally reserved for life bars, stats, etc. Some flat panel TV's still do overscan while others do not (mine does do some overscan as I do not have any bars on the tops or bottoms and the zoom feature on a 4:3 image crops the picture more than it should). It's still probably 16:9, just that they've reduced the overall size of the image by a small amount and it's better than the GC version since it uses the entire vertical resolution.

All of the Wii games I've played have a true 16:9 mode.

It's only because RE4 never had true 16:9 on the Wii. I have RE4 for GC and on my 16:9 screen the game has a black frame all the way around. It doesn't have anything to do w/the overscan issue.

It's just like how really old DVD's don't have true 16:9 mode but instead have only a 4:3 mode with black bars on the top and bottom.

PS2 version had true 16:9 and that is the aspect ratio they took for the Wii release.

RE4 for the Wii DOES have true 16:9, unlike the GC version. Overscan is his problem.

I havent noticed a difference anywhere in the game, graphically speaking. There's no AA (I was kind of hopeing we would get that), no Ansio, or bloom......

Still, the game still looks pretty good for a 2 year old GC game. I really like the control scheme (although, still no strafing).
