Means to an end, something merely as means, an end in itself, subjective ends.

My head just exploded. Wtf do those means?

- Immanuel Kant
o Believed in providence
o Enlightened Philosophers
o Made the term cosmopolitanism famous
o Intellectual and cultural movement across the European continent in the 18th century
o Inspired the American and French Revolutions
? Free thinking spirit
? Confidence in the capacity of human reason to overcome superstition
? Universalism
? Giving up traditional parochialism

Kant is considered by many political scientists/theorists as a monist. In other words, he believed that all people have the same dispositions and human nature. This leads to his belief that his way of life/culture is the best and that everyone should follow it. In other words, Kant's theory directly led to western imperialism because it justified the idea of Manifest Destiny or White Man's Burden.

It is a direct slap in the face to multi-culturalists. The bullets were pasted from my political theory class.

I forgot to mention that his writings are incredibly dense and difficult to understand, go to class and take good notes.

I had to read Kant, Plato, and a bunch of other works in a similar vein, for an ethics class. I liked some of it, but other parts made my head hurt more than my thermodynamics class. I'd like to think I took away something positive from that class, but I don't know.

Political philosophy. How fun. It's been about 15 years since I've had to read any of that.
Don't attempt reading/understanding it while tired.

Kant is awesome. Break it down and don't overthink it- you'll definitely appreciate it.

It's funny cause it's a business ethics class and has nothing to do with business ethics. I know this conceptual stuff will never help me in real life.

I read that and my head nearly exploded at first too. But after some ranting from a teacher it started to make sense (but no longer does because I don't remember much of it).

I'd like to hope that it does.
