So you spent all that money on a dash cam that either does not work, pointed behind you (worthless) or showed that you were too chicken to take on the LEO when you knew you were at fault.

my old one used to allow three cameras to plug into it, which was cool for exterior front, interior, and back. i guess this will do for now.

i have video of the guy tailing me. should i plead not guilty and take this evidence to court? should i just pay the fine and say fack it? somehow i have a feeling the cop is partially to blame for this. what should i do?

I was feeling sorry for you until this. NO the cop is NOT to blame at all. You are 100% to blame.

what should you do? fuck if i care now. i was going to give you advice on the ticket but fuck that.

And not of your encounter with the police?

Shens.

i do. its all on a stupid microSD card and i didnt have anything to play it back on atm. stupid phone has no microSD card or i would have showed him. Lifted, why are you questioning my integrity? :\

Amazing that they let you off on the construction zone part. In fact, it's unbelievable. They focus on those zones.

If you were rally clocked going that fast in a construction zone, then you are incredibly lucky to only owe $100.

What about your insurance rates?

heh. do i call my insurance provider and let them know i got a ticket? how do i know if they jack the rates?

yes, the cop was unbelievably cool. i fumbled around for my registration and insurance. couldnt find proof of insurance paper but he took me on my word that im insured til next summer. fool.

also, i noticed the cop didnt sign the ticket. there is a location on the ticket where it specifically asks for the traffic officers signature. can i get off on this technicality?

Sandeagle got a ticket - one given by a polite policeman just doing his job. Karma. Love it.

what karma, allisolm? i respect teh badge as long as its worn by true and honest policemen. all cop threads by me call out the criminals that are undeserving of having the honor to wear the badge.

In my state there is a 100% chance the officer will show up. They will reschedule to his day (the day he spends in court for traffic tickets) and that's the day your real court date is scheduled.
In my state it is pretty much the same. You have pre hearing where judge nicely tells you that you can plead not guilty, and if so date will be scheduled when officer will show up, and if you lose, you get to pay court fees on t op of existing fine.

.....
anyway, i decided to drive on the left side as i didn't want to drive next to the concrete barriers. for some reason, they don't leave enough room to the road and i don't want to risk losing control and hitting the barrier. ....

And this is where your problems began.
If you aren't comfortable driving next to barriers....how do I say this without being mean....consider public transportation.

(30 years driving and I've never seen a road too narrow to use. Unless I see your dash cam footage showing otherwise, I have to question your manhood, testosterone level, ability to handle your liquor, turn a wrench, satisfy a woman, and general right to breathe American air. Ok, maybe I'm kidding....maybe).

Or do what I do, and drop it into 3rd gear. That gets their attention fast :^D

Heh. Some boy racer with a cherry bomb exhaust was trying to get me to speed up in a built-up area recently (I was driving approximately at the speed limit), he kept doing this routine where he would drive right up behind me, drop back, and then quickly drive right up behind me again. Combined with the noise from the exhaust, his intention was obvious. The next time he drove right up behind me, I braked sharply. He backed off after that

The point of the citation is to identify you and what you are charged with. The officer will be identified when filing and will be identified in court. Highly improbable it would be tossed for that.

You know in most traffic courts, moving violations are never dismissed on a ticket technicality. They simply amend it with the needed corrections. And as to the signature, you usually get the Copy of the ticket. His copy, probably has the signature just fine. Face it, you got caught, so there is not much you can do. You can talk to the prosecutor and maybe, since your record was clean, he might lower it to a non points offense (usually at a higher fine and of course, court fees) .. At worst, take a AAA or AARP Driver Ed course to keep the points down. As to insurance, it depends. Some companies nail you for everything. Some may let the first ticket (unless it was serious like DWI) slide. Time will tell.

cop was surprising extremely polite. i expected him to tell me to stfu and point his gun at me. after i told him my side of the story, he apologized but still gave me a citation for going 17 over. he said he was going to waive doubling the fine for speeding in a construction zone. gee, thanks for nothing pal.

Actually, that was extremely nice of him.

You said the roads were dead. So why did you have to speed up to overtake someone, when you could have just moved over to the right to let the other guy go? He would have been the one to get the ticket.

So he cut the fine in half and you're bitching? Please take this to court so the judge can reinstate the whole fine.

I know someone who did this back in college, my neighbors were shooting fireworks at the house I was living in. My roommate callled they cops. The cops wrote the neighbors a 225 dollar ticket. They decided to go to court to fight it and the judge quadrupled the ticket. It was pretty funny.

got a speeding ticket July of last year

think the officer clocked me at 83 in a 65 limit. my fine was ~$500, San Diego area.

officer just showed me his radar gun and asked for license & registration

I got pulled over for going 120 on my way to vegas. Cop wrote me for 70 in a 60. $195 fine. Guy was awesome.

Remember that SE is scared about concrete barriers.

Why would he think logically. He could have slowed down and tucked in behind the slower vehicle instead of increasing breaking the speed limit.

Should have been arrested and thrown in the cellar for that one.

hey i got caught doing 97 in a 65. cop asked me how fast i was going and i said "im not sure, the speedometer buries itself at 85". the cop laughed and asked why i was going that fast and i simply said "its my dads caprice. i just wanted to see how fast it goes. i made sure nobody was around me, i wasnt trying to be stupid"

he didnt even want to give me a ticket after i told him i was going to an eric clapton concert... but he said "since youre from out of state, i cant let you go on this. im supposed to take you to jail since you dont have a way to pay the fine immediately. but i dont want to ruin your day, so heres a $279 ticket, just pay it soon. "

i thanked him for letting me off easy.

You received a moving traffic violation for speeding. That's not bad luck, but simply cause and effect.

np man. i think what you did is something everyone has done. part of it is you actually trying to be nice to the guy thats being as asshole. if you wanted to piss him off, you would have stayed the same speed as the guy next to you throughout the entire construction zone. the guy behind you likely would have got so mad he probably would have done something stupid and cause a crash.

the cop knows this too, which is probably why he let you off easy. all you did was try to get out of the guys way with the least interference to everyone involved. big deal. and i understand it was a construction zone, but if the road crew wasnt there working at the time then the risk isnt nearly as great.

Really no one's trying to be a douche, everyone just pointed out what you did wrong and your the one squealing "it's not my fault, I was tailgated" bla, bla, bla. Maybe this experience will make you a more considerate driver but I doubt it, again left lane= passing lane, unless your doing so stay out of the left lane..
