Your fault, you do not need to speed up to move over for someone tailing you. Either move over earlier, or take a little extra time to get clear of anyone in the other lane. It's pretty obvious when someone comes up behind you if they'd like you to move over, without waiting for high beams.

Or, do what I do and ignore asshole tailgaters. I'll move over for polite people, but if you pull up to three feet from my car and start flashing your high beams I'm putting my mirror on night mode and staying the same damn speed.

For the assholes who do that, I start to pull up next to a semi. I act as if I'm going to pass it at crazy slow speed (barely going a mph faster than the semi) and then I don't. I go back and forth (before and after) the semi. I act as if you could get past me. I'm like, "Yeah, feel the burn, bitch. Oh, so close... you can almost, oh wait.. nope, nope! Want me to be an asshole? HERE WE GO AGAIN!"

It's very satisfying.

I don't usually ride people. I try to keep my distance. However, when I do that... people don't get the fuck over! What the fuck!? Then I have to deal with the assholes passing me to just ride the guy... then I'm pushed back even more. I hate that.

in the 25 or so years that i have been driving, this is 3rd speeding ticket i have received. i'm a pretty damn good driver and i attribute it to years of playing video games.

EK, you (and many others with your distorted views) hold a personal grudge against me and will keep attacking my character to make me look like a liar. FREEE PALESTINE!!! (that's probably why lol)

Let see the video of the vehicle overtaking you.

However, it is probably worthless because it has to be pointed backwards.

Yet, the officer would approach from the rear of the car, so there should be some interesting frames.

Take the ticket. No good deed goes unpunished. Next time someone tails you, brake check 'em.

And he/she is surprised the cop didn't shoot him...... for speeding. Because cops totally do that.

Did anyone else think of that cracked article about this?

People Who Are Scared To Death Of Concrete Barriers

Sorry, but that's crappy, corrupt, and angering.

He has no right to, and public safety demands he not do it.

It's even worse than that. I know of two army guys in town here that have been told to leave the seen of an OUI where they wrecked the vehicle.

Yet the road was nearly empty and no 18 wheelers were passing you. :\

I hope you carry a gun, there are some people that will see your twerpness and pull you out of your car the next time you have to stop. Probably go out of their way to do it.

Nothing in the OP states 18 wheelers.

You stated you were alone and scared of driving next to barriers.

Nothing about passing vehicles.

You may have been tailgated or using it as an ecuse for exceeding the limit and getting a ticket.

The so-called dashcam video will clue us in to your embellishments

That sounds a bit dangerous because semis have large blind spots. The semi driver might try to change lanes because he can't see you even though he has been eyeing the mirror for the past 10 seconds.

By the way, the solution is speed less, not buy a detector.
I don't understand how a detector is supposed to work. The speed gun police use detects your speed in less than a second. It's like that with military radar as well, it knows exactly how fast you are going in less than 1 second. Are you supposed to receive the radar notice, mash on your brakes (likely causing an accident), and then cruise past the police going the speed limit? An appropriate analogy is that I'm looking for a man in a red shirt. Your radar detector tells you that I'm looking at you. You're somehow supposed to get notice that I'm looking at you and take your shirt off before my brain can recognize that your shirt is red. How on earth does that work??

Oh god yes. That shit happens all the time. I'll admit that I've done the, "VROOOOM" past a slow driver only to run into a red light, but I usually do it when it's a green light... But if it's a red I just exclaim, "Damn-it Jimmy!"

wow bro, quite the big thinker you are. Just to help you out, chances are by the time you get to a cop with radar he has used it on other drivers.

If the cop totally is waiting for just you, then YMMV depending on jammer and any other counter-measures you may have.

YMMV and of course you should drive responsibly at all time, but here goes...

With "normal" radar gun usage, the radar is running all the time. They clock at a certain range, but the signals proliferate beyond that range. Your detector (if it is a decent one) will detect the stray signals while you are still beyond the range of being clocked. Thus, you can slow down (to speed limit, or just slower than other motorists) without having to slam on the brakes.

It is different with "instant-on" radar or laser, because then it is as you have said, where you are clocked pretty much instantaneously. Your only hope is that they were clocking some vehicle in front of you, thus you can still detect the stray signals and be able to respond appropriately.

Just drive the speed limit. It's not really that hard of a concept. Experience is a cruel teacher.

I had a run in with a highway patrol last month. We were heading to Reno for hot august nights. While I was on the left lane free rolling down hill, clocked me from behind @82mph in 65 zone. Inertia and downhill slope don't go well together

This is true. I get a good laugh when I see people with detectors not parallel to the road (i.e. pointed at some angle) or are speeding with no one in front of them. If you know how they work, you can speed when you want; provided your local LEO don't use laser/instant on type of guns. In my area they almost exclusively use the KA band so it's easy to tell if one is hiding someone very early.

Do not let other drivers affect how you drive.

I tried to be considerate to other drivers but it actually back fired on me. When I was trying to make a 3 point turn really fast because another car was coming, I ended hitting a parked car.

Now I take my time no matter how long other drivers wait for me like if I'm blocking traffic trying to do a 3 point turn or parking. If I'm in the left lane and some guy is speeding up and tailgating me, I will maintain the speed I'm going and will not change lanes. If he wants to pass he can go around me. I'm no going to risk getting a ticket to make the other driver happy.

In many states, YOU will be the one to get a ticket for not moving back to the right after passing. Forcing other traffic to pass you on the right is creating a hazard.

i never seen any cops give tickets for holding up traffic even though it's against the law. But cops love to give speeding tickets.

I rather hold up traffic than to speed and and pass with a risk of getting a ticket.
