Real trouble burning second layer on Blu-Rays. Need a RELIABLE burner.

I have had an LG BD burner for about 5 years now. The LG WH10LS30. It's performed beautifully since I bought it.

Note: I'd still be interested to know if there was a different firmware in the same model # but one of those that was purchased more recently.
Side note: when flashing optical drive firmware, be sure that no optical disc is inserted while flashing.

I'm on Windows 7 and use IMGBUR 2.5.5.0, the most stable one I have tried

I successfully burned two double layered BD's on this and am burning a third right now. Maybe I finally found a solution.

By the way, I stick with the older ImgBurn because newer versions are saddled with malware and bloatware that is very difficult to NOT install. They go out of there way to trick you into clicking the wrong thing and my being dyslexic frequently puts me into a position where I misinterpret the wording and do the opposite of what I intend. Therefore I stick with the safe version I have used for years.

There may be a method of removing the junkware (if accidentally installed) and leaving only the intended ImgBurn software:

Use Unchecky? It auto-unchecks additional crap in installers.

I really don't know how many times I have to explain this. The LG burner from five years ago will burn anything and everything in ANY computer I install it. I can put it in any computer on this planet and it will successfully burn dual layered media. I even it in my sister's shitty old computer and successfully burned a BD50 first time out.

Yes, you said you preferred an external burner with a power supply, so I suggested cases you could put the working burner in, and just use it that way in any computer.

But you took that the wrong way.

I'm not being surely at all. Just trying not to repeat myself is all. I need two working BD burners. Not just one.

Thankfully I burned three DL's on the external LG so I think I finally found the right burner. Build quality seems good too.

Do you use any software to verify burn quality? Any brands other than TDK would you recommend for decent burns?

ImgBurn has a verify function so after burning I have it verify.

Hello Matt. So far I could not find neither a reliable DL burning device nor a reliable source of blu-ray burner reviews or comparison chart. There are few people interested in optical storage today, so maybe I can say I am a optical media backup enthusiast.
The other day I tried hands on my third external slim usb powered blu ray burner drive and still unable to healthily burn DL. Two of them were samsung and this one is archgon box with panasonic drive inside. Now I am moving toward buying an LG BE16NU50. I am here to ask whether you are happy with your external LG burner so far? What are its cons, if there is any.
