Really expensive edo

I have a toshiba satellite 2540xcdt laptop. It has 64mb soldered on to the mobo (a lot of spec sheets/ memory configurators mistakenly report that it only has 32). I would really like to upgrade the memory, but after looking around, the prices for this particular model are really high...about $250 for 64mb. I called Centron technology and they said that it was due to the edo part itself, that something in the manufacturing process was responsible for the higher price. Is there any workaround to be found for this dilemna, or do I just have to play the waiting game and hope that the price eventually drops?

I think it's simply because it isn't in demand anymore, which is why it's got a high cost... and it's not really made as much now.
Supply on Demand, right?

You can find used laptop EDO ram, have a peep around.

The price will never drop. EDO RAM is scarce and it is still in demand. Old technology but alot still use it. Thats why its still expensive.

I doubt it will get cheaper since their is no OEM market for it anymore, everyone has moved on to SDRAM so the fabs dont produce EDO so the chip makers dont make any more of your chips.....

Just look at prices for desktop SIMMs

It will never get cheaper. Suuply and Demand. It's no longer produced and there is a high demand for it.

It will get cheaper when the demand drops. This will happen when enough of the puters using it have ceased to function. Including, most likely, yours. By that time you will probably have acquired an upgraded model anyway.
