really stupid question.. how do i know if my mobo supports DDRAM?

heard so much good stuff bout DDRAM's i figured i want to give it a try if it does give a nice performance boost..

anyhows, how do i know if my mobo supports it? . (

bought it from computergeeks for like 40 bucks.. anyhows I also have an old Dell p3-450..

so i dunno what that mobo is..

i read the stats on the ECS one and it can handle SDRAM.. but i dunno if it takes DDRAM.. or if my old depp p3-450 does..

-sigh- . ) i might have to just bite the bullet, buy cheap ddram and see if it increases my systems' memory

no it will take only SDR

Take ECS's word for it! DDR will not fit! Therefore, no memory increase!

You could take it back and for another 10 or 15 get the K7S5A which will handle
both DDR and SDR, just not simultaneously.

i know your problem is solved, but for future reference, look at the actual RAM slot


if there is 1 directional inhibitor (sounds fancy, but i dunno what else to call it...the thing that slips up into the notch of the ram PCB)

then it is DDR


if there are 2 then it is SD-RAM

can anyone elaborate on this possibly? i'm not quite sure what is meant by this and i'm curious

if you look at a stick of sdram it has 2 count them two little slots that have to line up in the socket to make sure they are in the right way.
ddram has 1 count them one slot to line up with the pins in the socket to make sure it is in the right way.
If your mb has sdram installed ddram will NOT work the sockets are different. one other little minor thing is that ddram has 184 pins and sdram has 168 pins

hahhah....i would have understood if he said notch. directional inhibitor makes it sound like some kind of crazy robotic device. but for some reason i read that and my brain just went "???" sorry about that.
