Really Weird "untitled.bmp" in IE

Whenever I try and save almost any image in IE 5.5 (happened to me in 5.0) via right clicking and "Save Picture As" it pops up the save window and says only lets me save it in .bmp form regardelss of what format the picture was in. Also, instead of the picture name (like "red_sox.jpg&quot it says "untitled.bmp." Another thing is that when I right click and choose "View Source" nothing happens. I am unable to View Source at all in IE. Everything in Netscape works fine (that is except for browsing, b/c Netscape is truly wretched).

Now, this stopped happening when I first switched over to Win2k about 2 months ago. But, it has begun to happen again, and there was no action I can think of which I took that correlates to this result. I also have no idea how to remedy it. I need help as I need to be able to save images in their original format without resorting to Netscape, and I need to be able to view source. ALso, I like to find solutions to problems rather than workarounds. I am running Win2k with all the updates, but it also was happening to me on Win98. Thanks in advance, you guys rule.

I've only seen that problem occur with MSIE when the graphic wouldnt completely finnish loading ... and any rightclick save as would result in the untitled.bmp filename ...

for me all i had to do is refresh the page and usually the image would fully load and save normally ...

but the things happening to you are strange ...

I run win2k and winME ... and never have i been getting the problem with save/as a lot

and im always able to view source ... (rinning IE5.5 in both of my installations)


I think perhaps for some reason the pages you are visiting are failing to load 100% .. maybe the server is timing out too soon .. perhaps your inet connection is poor ... perhaps the server you are trying to view source on is way overloaded causing the page not to fully load making it impossible to view source ?????????

this is mostly speculation ... but perhaps it may be of some help

This is on every page. I have a T1, and I am positive it has nothing to do with the page loading all the way. But thanks. I am desperate =)

Go to internet properties, advanced tab and make sure all your settings are correct there...
