Realtek AC'97 codec (Audio) issue

When I play a game such as counterstrike 1.6, and then alt tab out for a second to go log onto irc, or ventrilo, browse the internet, etc. There is a LOUD static buzzing sound that happens whenver a normal beep or page click or other sound would happen.

Any ideas how to fix this? I tried reinstalling the codec but that didn't help.

Try disabling windows sound events.

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Sounds

Change the Sound Scheme to "No Sounds".

Let me know if that helps.

it helps...but that's avoiding the problem.

I kind of rely on a few of the irc sounds.
