realtek sound: you like, no?

thinking about getting the MSI K8T800 Chipset Motherboard for AMD. how's the sound? If it sux, any alternatives? This is my first build sos I'm a little ignant in the tech-talk department. Any help is appreciated.

For most day to day things it will be fine.

BUT if you spent more then $100 on speakers or do sound editing using the input of thr sound card then you would do better to get a different board with better onboard sound or get a seperate sound card.

For good sound Albatron with Via800 and Chaintech with Nforce3 are your beste choices. They come with Via Envy 24bit sound, it has really good quality.

Or if you spend even $19 on headphones. It's not that it's going to bad...just not going to be great, either.

I'm looking at mobos with the via envy onboard sound. i have revolution 7.1 in the computer I'm using now.

I have a Albatron K8X800 Pro II with a Athlon64 3000+ and it runs great. The Envy sound with all the other options for less thenn $119 sealed the deal for me.

It will be better than most, but you should hear a difference between that Revo and the onboard. I have yet to hear onboard sound that can compete with a $50 (Fortismo III) soundcard.

Don't you think Envy 24PT (onboard) does? It is better than the audigy a friend of mind lend me in case I liked it more than Envy onboard to buy it.

I guess the envy onboard will do fine. If I don't like it I can get a soundcard. the rev. 7.1 sounds great. Thanks for the insight.
