trying to setup realvnc on a users machine so I can get to it remotely, and I'm missing something. In the server setup I put my ip and netmask in, but on the viewer at my pc what the heck is the server name. From reading the setup I thought it would be the ip/subnet of the server but it isn't working. Is it the actual pc name listed under my computer, the server is on XP....

With UltraVNC, I can either enter the IP address or my computer name. Both work for me.

the instructions for realvnc are just kind of vague, I'll try the ultravnc instead.... thanks

I use UltraVNC as well and don't think you are prompted for a name when you run the SERVER on the host program...just a password.

I've not used RealVNC before, so I don't know the differences between RVNC and UVNC:

All you do on RealVNC is install it on the host machine and type in a password. Then run the viewer from another machine and put in the host's computer name/ip address. Assuming the service is started, you will then be prompted for the password you typed in. It doesn't really get much easier, unless of course... you had dameware, that is real easy
