In school today, this person sets her password to a different Language. Trys to type it in on logon screen and the Language bar does not pop up, and now cant get into her comp! woo. All her work was in there, blah blah todays the last day of marking period needed all work in which was in the laptop. Called dell, they say you got to reformat. Call Windows, got to reformat. So I said, I could possibly just remove the password. Which I did and took around 45 min.

A pita for sure, but why would you do something risky like that? The password dialog should be directly accessible, without relying on a second app to type it in. You're given an infinite number of password possibilities in the O/Ss native language, I'd just pick something normal.

Wanting to type in your native language is risky?

When it's not native to your O/S language, yes. I wouldn't want to rely on a second popup app to get me logged in. It's just 1 more thing that can go wrong.

Why not just run the entire OS in the native language then?

Normally you would but there are reasons why you might want to jump back and forth between two or more, especially if more than one person uses the thing.

I fail to see how this is a "Vista sucks" thing. It sounds more like "Reason #328" of why allowing users any control sucks.

Did this user use a normal password for months, and just today decide they wanted a Japanese password or something? I just do not get WHY people will decide to go and do something odd like that at the most inopportune time. I guess it is just human nature.

Noooooooo kidding ! This doesn't even begin to be a 'Vista screwed me' story.

From the Windows helpfile:

Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts

When you choose regional and language settings for your computer, such as your default input language or keyboard layout, you can apply those settings to special accounts in Windows called reserved accounts. Reserved accounts include the default user account and the system accounts. These accounts are described below.

Click to open Regional and Language Options.

Click the Administrative tab, and then click Copy to reserved accounts. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Do one of the following:

To copy the current settings to the default user account, select the Default user account (new users) check box. The default account is used as a template for creating new user accounts. This setting allows administrators to set the default format, keyboard layout, and display language for new users. Any user account created on the computer after the settings have been copied to the default user account has these settings applied to it. Existing user accounts are not affected.

To copy the current settings to the system accounts, select the System accounts (local system, local service, and network service) check box. The system accounts are special accounts used by Windows? services. This setting allows administrators to specify a display language and keyboard layout for the Welcome screen. It also sets the display language for users who have not specified a display language.

Note that this must be set by an admin. If you do not know an admin account on your own box... ?? ...this is probably the least of your concerns.
