Seriously use a launcher and you will have all the control you could ever want. I use Nova and love it

I played with Nova a bit earlier, it let me delete the unused home screens. I'll check out apex later this evening. Thanks for the advice guys.

big fan of nova, love gestures - swipe up toggles notification bar and swipe down the notifications down without having to go all the way to the top of the screen

Ok, up until 2 weeks ago I was an iOS user. The number of home screens depended on the number of apps installed. Or you could make folders and reduce the number of screens.

Apple patented that, that's why you have 5 home screens on android...

At least as important as control, IMO, is consistency. I can swap devices, add new devices, etc., all without changing my essential layout and interactions.

Heh, yeah. Nova.

I routinely install a few other launchers and rotate between them just to mix things up. One of the things I love about Android is you can change it up however you want. Currently I'm trying out GoLauncher again on my Note 3. I like it, it's got some really cool features, but I just can't stand the way Go pushes all their other crap with anything of theirs you install. They could be great, but instead they have a shovel-ware mentality, which sucks.

Anyway, point is, I'll get bored with it soon and switch back to the old faithful- Nova.

I installed Nova again last night and got it to look exactly like (or REALLY close to) the stock launcher minus the 2 home screens I wasn't using. Very simple and elegant solution, though it would have been even more so if Moto/Kitkat would let me just delete the extra unused screens directly, I liked everything else about the stock launcher. Thanks everyone!

In Kitkat, I have 5 home screens. 5. I can't delete any of them which makes me think that there must be some good reason for all 5 screens to be there even if I can't envision a use for them.

What is the deal here? Can I actually delete the extra screens? Am I missing the boat here by not using more than 3 of the 5 screens? I have widgets on 3 screens and have no use for any others at this time.

TIA fellas.

ps - sorry for all the questions lately, I do google this stuff first but the answers I find are sketchy or just don't provide the answers I need.

Just found it on my new phone. Maybe it's the same with yours. Pinch the screen (like you're zooming out) and it might show a list of all your screens including blank ones to delete. I'm using the default launcher on the Boost ZTE Warp Sync

Paid NOVA user here for awhile. Everytime I switch phones I mess around with various launchers. Always return to paid NOVA.

Whoah, blast from the past here. I've since moved to the Google Now Launcher, I like the stock Android feel. Did so on both my Moto and my OPO.

I think I saw in a video review of the 2014 Moto X that the default launcher is now Google Now Launcher so new converts will never have to learn the way I did.
