Reason Intel pulled Optimizer Tool

If using Vista or Windows 7 it makes all restore points unusable prior to using optimizer. http://communities.intel.com/thread/8342 On another note they will try to get new firmware out by end of Nov.

How does this update work for those of us who are running OS X exclusively? Are the risks of formatting the drive still there? What is the worst that can happen, do we need to worry about bricking the drive?

Many bricked their Intel SSD with that firmware. I would wait for the revised firmware, expected in about two weeks.

The SSD Toolkit is safe if you don't mind losing your Windows restore points.

that being said, I would wait for the new firmware... you can go 2 more weeks without trim.

And system restore? pah, I have always been disabling this crap... slower installs, wasted HDD space, a place for viruses to hide (they infect your restore points), AND I have never EVER seen a restored system that wasn't completely fucked up... You have to do a clean reinstall of windows after a system restore to fix windows.... it is completely FUBARed.
