I think this is a go for many of us who are repeatedly raped by our local baby bells.
1. Digital voice (although, is anyone out there offering analog?).
2. All inclusive price (except tax) for 500 min LD + call waiting, call foreward, voice message, etc.=everything
3. Additional LD over the 500min. is billed at 3.9 cents/min. (this is a pretty hot rate all by itself).
4. Transfer your old number over to the new service. or
5. Pick a new number (I think all you get to pick is the area code).
6. Pick any US area code you want to use and if you are in NY (for example) you could make it appear as if the call originated in CA or CO or AZ or wherever!
7. International rates are incredibly low, I mean London .05 cents, Tokyo .07 cents, Sydney .06 cents!
8. For extra $14 use all the long distance you can stand. (I think this is on the domestic side).

The list is rather large and I don't want to repeat what you can find out for yourself at Vonage Communications.

(I am not their shill, so forget about the flame war!)

vonage is great. All you have to do is hook up the cisco ata 186 to your router, add a phone of your choice and your set. The ATA is set on DHCP. Great when you travel, if you have high bandwidth connection in the hotel, saves you money making call without using the hotels phone. It even works overseas. My company has four of to use. The vonage system however went down 3 times during the 6 months we had it.

I don't have BB and as such, can't qualify.
However, if I could drop my local bell (Qwest), I'd prefer to drop it on it's head, but alas, DSL keeps me from doing so.
In an act of revenge, I've dropped all of my lines but one and have the minimum on that and, no other services except for a bare line.
Qwest, the asinine phone company (formerly known as US WEST) screwed me, stiffed me, cut off my phones (one or another or all at once), was rude, stupid, and bungled every order for thirty years. They were even worse under Nacchio. I can hardly wait until they go bankrupt. Nacchio's $135 million leadership was #$%-*&^$, or worse!

(OK! The rant is over and calm prevails.)

Try looking here:

I have been debating getting vonage for a while. They have two plans the $26 plan mentioned above which is unlimited local calling plus 500 LD minutes and a $40 plan that is unlimited minutes.

DSL doesn't count as broadband?

What happens when your broadband hookup goes down? No phone to call tech support!

Due to lack of 911 this is designed to be a secondary phone. Has the 911 status changed? Can you call 911 now? I want this, but not as a secondary and will use cell as backup. Cell is not acceptable as 911 backup.

Goto the forum I posted above, but IIRC 911 is supposed to be enabled sometime this year.

And I don't understand the big deal about 911. I mean my home town didn't even have 911 service on land lines until relatively recently.

look here first before you sign up for Vonage!
You can refer yourself and get $40 credit for the 1st month.
Linky

I have been using Vonage for about 1 month, and it works great!
the voice quality is amazing, sometimes it is even better than my analog phone with local company.

Just a quick FYI. To recieve the referral, someone has to refer you before you sign up. I did this and the referer and I both got the credit. If anyone is thinking of signing up and wants to get the credit, I'll be more than happy to referer you IM me on AIM at spamt01

BTW, the service is great and I've saved a decent amount on my phone bill in addition to the feautures you get.

I think the link is from vonage.
you can do a search on google for Vonage and it will show up as a Sponsored Link.

It's not an official Vonage site, it's a referral site made by someone. You can't refer yourself and have to have someone do it for you.. Either way, get a referral before signing up. Read my previous post.

No it is not from Vonage. It is a 3rd party site that is setup link the vonage site to get referrals. Everytime someone uses that link, the person that setup the site is also getting a $40 credit. So unless it is your site, it would be pretty silly to point others to the site when you can get the credit yourself. You just shouldn't post the link here.
