lol... that's classic... I'm just happy there weren't broke before I got my AofE 2 rebate check deposited.

I guess all your base really aren't belong to microsoft. if they were, then the check wouldn't bounce.

You can redeposit the check if you got it back. Hopefully they have some funds in their account now.

Do up a nice friendly business style letter. Include a copy of the bounced check. Also include a copy of your bank statement that documents the $15 fee for the returned check. Tell microsoft how you upset you are, and how you expect more from such a "Reputable" company. Ensure you also include your postage cost (send it certified or atleast return receipt) so you can get re-embursed for it also. Mail it to the following: Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052-6399. Also make a Copy and mail to your local Better Business Bureau, but make sure you include the CC on the letter you send to micorsoft. This should fix you up.

Well obviously there was some mix up by either the bank, or the Microsoft account. If the bank can't realize that, then I would question whether you should be banking there.

I would call Microsoft and complain if this is true. They have always been the best company I have come across for rebates. I always get them faster from them than anyone else.

I don't think it's actually MS that does the rebates, probably a separate rebate house...I could be wrong...

Excellent advice, very well documented and you should be compensated for the $15 NSF fee, mailing costs, etc. I would go a step further and type "cc: Washington state Attorney General's Office", and list any other politicians you want as well

You gotta post this to f***edcompany.com.

I would love to see this posted there!

Actually I had a check that someone gave me and it bounced. My bank (First Union) also charged me like $20 and I simply called and said, "Can you please remove this charge from my account? I'm not the one that bounced a check and therefore shouldn't be charged. I've already got to go get my money from this person as it is so please don't make it any harder on me." That got my $20 back with no problems, but if that doesn't work you ask for the manager and last ditch effort you tell them to close the account and that you're taking your money elsewhere. More then likely they will refund your money as a customer courtesy issue.

In fact, do this and send the letter to Microsoft... MS (actually they probably subcontract out the rebate work to some other company) will more than likely refund your fee and then you made another $15 in the deal.

By the way... this also works if you happen to incure a late fee on credit cards. Of course you shouldn't be late but sometimes it happens, as long as you're friendly and have a decent record with your bank they will normally refund most of those "crap" fees they add of for stuff.

just got a question, can bank charge you for check you deposit with the check owner doesn't have enough fund? I thought they only charge you if you don't have enough fund.

you can also e-mail this to c|net www.news.com and they will make a story for you.

In addition to write a nice letter to microsoft as suggested, you can e**bay the check.

Last year MS forgot to pay the internic fee, a consultant was nice enough to shall out $70 to pay the bill for MS, MS send him a $500 check to compensate and thank that consultant.
