probably better in off topic... but you just need to sign it the way they printed it (the incorrect way), then sign again below it the correct way

Take it to your bank, see what they say.

What rebate center? Maybe you submitted multiple rebates, and in order for their system to accept more than one, they intentionally changed the name as the "easy" way to get the system to accept it?

I would try to cash it myself first, and it the bank refuses after any explanation, i would contact the rebate company.

Usually rebates check are made out to the person who submitted the rebate or "Bearer". In any event, the proper way to endorse the check is to sign it the way your name was spelled on the face of the check and then sign your properly spelled name underneath.

CASH IT. Your bank will NOT care. If they say anything, explain the situation. Bottom line to them is, they are not assisting you in fraudulently cashing someone else's rightful check. They will never get a call from the police asking "Mr. ABC's check was cashed by your customer, Mr. ABDC. What is ABDC's address?"

i've cashed rebate checks that had the wrong first name, wrong last name, even my friend's name, no problems whatsoever, just sign two different names.

It shouldn't matter as long as you have funds in your account to cover the check in case it gets returned.

The rebate scam of the year is to make a typo in your address. That way the rebate check will never reach you and they keep the money. So, check the status often and once it gets approved verify the address with them.

Hey draggoon01, which letters did they drop? And did they rearrange the G or the O in your name?

I get rebates checks that mispell my name all the time.

Just as long as it looks somewhat like your name, your bank won't care.

just sign in, and cash it.

I've cashed checks that have been sent to me with the last name completely wrong and haven't had any probs. They don't check signatures. Just go to a busy branch or ATM and deposit it.

My feeling is that banks don't care when you're depositing money. I've deposited rebate checks with my name mispelled and the teller(s) didn't care a bit. they care only when you're taking money out.

Don't worry about it! Your bank won't care unless the teller is too green and tries to be strict on this matter. The safe way is deposit your rebate check through ATM machine. Most likely those high school part-timers just process the ATM deposits based on the account number on the deposit slip.

With checks unless it's over a certain amount (either $15,000 or $1,500, I forget which) they don't even bother verifying signatures!

Also, when you deposit in an ATM, if you're off in your own favor by less than $1.00 they don't fix it.

It's amazing what banks do, much to your detriment in the first case, to cut costs.

If they spelled it just like my name, then this is a hot deal -- for me.

If it is even close, the bank won't care. They get typos and misspellings every day.

Wow beat the lock.

Rebates mispell my name all the time and its not very hard to spell correctly.... And I used a stamping thing to fill out the rebate, just deposit the rebate, they won't even care.

Definitely wrong forum, buuuuuuuuttt...
Wife use to work for bank. Sign as stated on the rebate, then counter-sign with your correct name.

My advise is not to cash it per se but deposit it in your account. I would give a 100 to 1 odds that no one would notice it.

I use to work for a bank (BofA, to be specific) and just sign the check and deposit through the ATM, not with the teller. It'll usually get deposited.
