Just received a postcard from K-Byte today stating that my purchase from BestBuy-a 512mb DDR was not valid for a rebate. Well, geez! BestBuy advertised it as $99-$30MIR... I sent in everything, upc symbol-ORIGINAL, rebate printout and receipt. That's the *&(*(&^ last time I buy anything from K-Byte.

Did anybody get denied on the Staples 80GB 8mb cache Maxtor ULTRA Series rebate that we got last Oct/Nov.
This one is with the PM to CompUSA for $60. thnx.

This is a heads-up for all who pre-purchased any laptop at any time at Bestbuy. My wife bought the after Thanksgiving Toshiba Satellite deal. Here is the story: My wife pre-purchased on the 27th of November and re-purchased (with the consent of Bestbuy) on the 29th (at a lower price). She sent in her rebates and, get this, just received a letter saying her rebates WOULD NOT be honored because she bought on the 27th. Apparently re-buying it on the 29th meant nothing. She called the manager of the Bestbuy and he told her that NO MATTER what anyone told her because she bought on the 27th she WOULD NOT be getting the rebates - period. Basically if she does not get the laptop it is going back and the charges will be fought. PLEASE provide some advice, I have never had this problem before (with pre-purchasing) and am stymied.

you did make and retain copies of all submitted materials for the rebate ..if you did take them and go to BB and head over to the CSR desk..present yuour case and show them the card..they should help you ..

I bought the Acomdata HDD and 5 pack games, and send in the both rebates at the same time before the deadline, but when I check the website, they didn't show anything for the HDD rebate, but I already received the check for 5 pack game and it did show up on the website. What should I do?

You should have returned it and went to another store. That would have given you new receipts, but then you would have had the return penalty to deal with. Too bad.

when you rebought, you did not receive completely new receipts and rebate forms? i dont know what to do, the usual contact your local BBB or your lawyer if you have one...that's the problem with rebates we are always at the mercy of the corporations.

Guys, it's become increasingly apparent that a few "companies" are trying new "tactics" to invalidate rebates. I have a battle I've just started fighting with Butt Buy (my, what a freudian slip!), where they're claiming I returned the item. Ah, no.... I did not. Their response, prove it!

Well, my solution is going to be to:

1. File a Better Business Bureau complaint;

2. then a Federal Trade Commission complaint;

3. then complaints with both states Attorney Generals.

I'm tired of wasting my time, playing their game. It's time to play mine. I'm no longer going to waste my time re-mailing (postage) and/or re-faxing (long distance charges) information which is well documented and which I have already clearly provided. I'll spend those resources providing that information to the BBB, FTC and ATs where I know it will be effective.

So, if the corporate pinheads from Best Buy (and the rest) are reading this (we know you are), I suggest you take notice. Play by the rules, or I WILL use those same rules to that effect.

That sucks. How do you prove you didn't return it? What was the item and which rebate center is handling it (BB/Calais, ME)?

I went back and pricematched several items at BB that had rebates and used the original receipt when I sent the rebate in. I wonder if they are going to say I returned the item. I figured that if they reject my rebate I would go back to the store and complain.

Yep - Butt Buy / Calais Maine / pricematch. There are absolutely NO restrictions in the terms and conditions against pricematching. Stores honoring the corporate pricematching are honoring a Best Buy Corporate Policy. Prciematching is not a "promotion" or "offer". I'm very diligent in my documentation - these clowns are about to find out just how much.

BBB has been wonderful in helping me with a complaint. They got right on it and have been pushing it alongside me the whole time. Not to discourage you but FTC complaints are not acted on in the same manner. They accumulate them and act only if there is a large trend. Please do file because it is important that people complain but just be warned not to expect much from them.

called in iomagic (rebate service) for 2 over due rebates (forget about it because not keeping good records last oct/nov... better now) last monday.
Got the two checks today. ( $20 Hi-val CDR and $20 IOmagic cdrw from CC)

go thro my rebates and see the PNY 4200 $30 from BB is missing. check and see no record (lost?) has to refax again (8 weeks....) its from last 9/17/02

The Amazon 1001 savings rebate is coming too. So clear up some due one.

Re the free cd player from Office MAx that has hung on for so long, I called the number supplied by Slickone, who said in his posting

That's the same message I have heard at least three times before ... Oct/ Nov and Dec.

At least they act like the deal is still alive.

There have been a lot of DELL deals that require you to buy at least 2 systems to get the total up enough to qualify for a rebate on each system. The rebate form says you must submit the original packing slip with the rebate form but there is only one packing slip per order. I asked Dell on their forums and they don't have a clue; emails go unanswered; the rebate center gives you a different answer everytime you ask. Can people who have submitted their rebates post how they did it? Since there isn't a way that complies with the letter of the rebate form, might as well go with the majority ;-) TIA
