Got Pine/Pioneer DVD-RW $50 rebate, drive purchased at Fry's. Both from Canada, checks dated 9/17, but recieved today. So the turnaround time was mid-July to 10/23. Roughly 12 weeks.

RebateStatus.com is dropping the ball again. My Gigafast 8-port router submission hasn't shown up after 2 months.

Called them up. Folks on the phone sounded like they were working out of their home basement. Asked me to "wait a moment, please" at least 5 times. At the end he said they'd put me in the system with no resubmission required, then gave me a conf#. Hasn't shown up on their website yet. We'll see. Next step is contesting the Visa payment to PC Club. That and a complaint to BBB will get some attention.

Received 10/27

A little slower than I'd like, but at least it's not Viking rebates and/or TCA.

FYI:

Officemax just paid the $10 and $30 Cendyne rebates for me that RebatesHQ had denied as "only one submission allowed per person, per item, per offer." If you have written these off, you might want to follow up on them with Officemax (www.maxmyrebates.com)

Just got my $30 Lite-One MIR. According to them my info was entered into the computer on Sept. 16. I mailed it in on August 14. So about 10+ weeks.

Yes, at their website, Lite-On rebates
it said "Date Mailed: 10/24/2003"

But the info about when it was processed into their computer was via their telephone number. They seem to do a good job of tracking our rebates, now I just wish they could mail it out to us in less then 6 weeks.

Buy.com Soundblaster Extigy, $50 rebate

After weeks of emails and telephone calls to incredibly unhelpful people at buy.com, they FINALLY credited my VISA with the $50 rebate that they screwed up on. They also issued a $10 gift check for buy.com.

Let this be a lesson to you - PRINT OUT EVERYTHING

I had printouts of the product page, my shopping cart, and my receipt. All of these showed the rebate very clearly. If I didn't have these printouts, they would have screwed me.

I will never order from buy.com again.

Anyone get their $70 rebate for the Samsung ML-1710 laser printer yet? I got an email on 8/21 that it was received and in process...then an email on 10/15 saying it was mailed out and give it 10 business days...it's now 11 business days....do they mail these from Calcutta? Nothing should take 10 business days to reach anywhere in the US.

EDIT: The rebate check arrived today (11/1), so if anyone else has these outstanding, it looks like they should be coming.

What do you do if the postal office messes up your rebate claim?

They told me my mail was damaged and sent back my two forms, but did not send back the UPC. By the time I resend something out, the postmark date would have expired. Tried calling the postal office to resolve this, but no gurantee that I can get my claim back.

On 9/24/03, I bought the Western Digital 160 Gig WD1600JBRTL ($199.99) at BB price-matched with Sam's Club $129.99. The store refused to give me the rebate forms, so I went home printed both the $70 WD and the $10 BB rebate forms. I got both checks this week! That's $129.99 - $70 - $10 = $49.99 NET. WOW-NICE DEAL.

Update From TCA:


A note regarding the "bad address" flag on TCA's website.

We recently added a new feature on our website (rebate status lookup)that will inform you if we cannot mail your rebate because the address we have is "undeliverable" by the Post Office.

This feature allows you to correct the address on our system. Once you correct an address, your rebate check is issued within 48 hours.

It has been brought to our attention that approximately 23,000 rebates were marked "undeliverable" in error. The rebate checks were actually mailed on October 28. We have corrected the problem and removed the "undeliverable" flag from these records.

Heads up folks.

Check your rebates at TCA / www.wheresmyrebate.com. They are having major problems with their rebate system and it is giving you error message "Returned to us by Post Office. Incorrect mailing address. Click here to correct." when the status is mailed. They do some type of check with the Post Office address checker (which I think is illegal) and it is messed up. See the end of this thread at FW.

There's been some concern on whether or not the $50 Epson printer + Digital camera rebate would be honored for the $15 iConcepts digital cameras that OM offered.

Mine just got approved by Parago so it looks like it's a go.

I'm done. I've been doing these rebates for 2-3 years now, and I've just had it. I'm tired of jumping through hoops to get my own money. I'm tired of scanning receipts, filling out forms, and mutilating packages to get the goddamn barcodes off of them. I'm tired of rude CSRs who could care less about providing actual service, and seem to enjoy giving me a hard time. I'm tired of being lied to, cheated, and f*cked over.

I am blessed to have recently come into a rather large sum of money. Not enough that I would really call myself "wealthy", but enough that I can live without the $15, $30, even $50 rebates. From now on, when I want a new hard drive, or some CDRs, I'm just going to buy them. Don't bother me with mail-in rebates anymore, please.

It may sound strange, but I actually feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I truly hope that each of you reading this who are "rebate fanatics" as I have been up until now (and you know who you are) can also say "screw these rebates" someday. Best wishes to all.

I have rebate email from HP, easierrebates, Staples, OfficeMax, Parago, Circuit City, Lexmark, Centon and TCA (wheresmyrebate).

Staples is back to their lovely trick of sending rebates back in record time. The last two I got came back in less than 4 weeks. I always fill out the form online which seems to help.

Speaking of fast rebate payments, Philips Distilleries paid my $10 rebate on 3 1.75 liter bottles of their product in 2 weeks from the date of mailing (ok, granted their mailing address is in MN and I'm in MN).

Just another way for them to get your e-mail address, so they can build a list of people to e-mail. Probably a pretty good list too, since they know those e-mail addresses are for actual paying customers, which is alot better than most lists you can buy on the Net that are mostly just junk e-mails...
