Received a postcard about my Sony 16X CD-RW drive $30 rebate -- it was denied. The reason: "The store where product was purchased is not participating in this rebate program". I bought it from Dell in November during their 20% off plus coupon deals. Did anyone made similar purchases?

I'm calling them tomorrow, but would like to see if someone else has already got theirs.

[EDIT] Called them this morning, was told they do not have the information for the store I purchased from. Also said the city of my address is incorrect. What a bunch of BS! The store name is printed on the receipt that she said is in front of her (DELL) and the postcard they sent me has the correct address! Anyways, she validated the rebate, now I need to wait another 6 weeks for the check...

Getreal: Thanks for the quick reply! I have been bitten by compUSA many times! First was in high school on a Z-One $75 MIR! That hurt. I will do as you said.

Thanks,
Brian

Got a invalid UPC code for the V-tech rebate from staples online. I called them asking why it was invalid. The rep asked for the UPC code from the copy I have and said that it's valid and adjusted the status. The status was updated within 5 mins.

I just received a 'rebate denied' notice from Young America regarding a $100 rebate on a Western Digital 120gb hd.

The reason for denial is 'store name is not on receipt or store is not valid for rebate'. This is ridiculous, the rebate is from Outpost.com and the Oupost.com logo appears 4 times on the receipt. The rebate coupon says it's for Outpost.com and it features the exact same logo prominently printed on the receipt.

I called and complained and they said 'it might be a mistake'. So I had to resubmit within 7 days.

I wonder if they are doing this for everyone trying to get the $100 rebate? Even if one person doesn't resubmit the company is up $100.

Got the exact same return on my $100 120gb rebate today. Called the # and talked to Lorrie who said it was an obvious mistake- NSS.
She gave me a fax number to resubmit and I did.

Called the BestBuy rebate center today to followup on my $5 D-Link NIC denial. Their "escalation group" reviewed it and said there is nothing they can do about the denial. Told me I will need to call BB customer relations or go to the store where I bought it. The rebate center knows it's a mistake but they cannot do anything about it. Here's what I found out about this BestBuy rebate center. When you call the 800-849-0444 number you actually reach a call center in Canada. They do not touch the rebates. They can only look at the computer. The real rebate center in Calais, ME actually processes the rebates and enters the information enter to computer. Bottom line: The call center at 800-849-0444 is worthless when trying to resolve rebate problems if there is a problem with the rebate in their system. In this case I talked to two CSRs who both acknowledged that the rebate was screwed up in their data base.

I plan to go back to the store when I receive my official denial letter. The I will email BB and call their customer relations department to complain about this whole mess and tell them their rebate call center is useless and they could save money by dumping them.

Is it just me or has there been a very large number of people getting rebates denied because it might be a "mistake". I had the same problem on my Officemax Winxp promotion. I think it was the Memory UPC... but I called and they said it was a "mistake" still waiting on it.

Anybody have any success with the CompUSA Cendyne 16X10X40 CDRW rebate.

I have not received it yet after more than 8 mnths, mailed Rebate forms May 2001. Called CompUSA Rebates who asked me to called Cendyne Corporation as they no longer handled Cendyne Rebates. Called Cendyne and they say they only do part fulfilment (30$) and rest has to be done by CompUSA. I'm just being shuttled around.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Actually received the $20 Circuit City rebate for the JamCam! CC program #y5067 from August 26-Sep 1. The check said memory upgrade so I called and was told it was for that program. Apparently there were several items with varying rebate amounts in the same program. I knew I didn't buy a memory upgrade and had no other CC rebate pending for $20. Corporate also sent me a $20 gift card for all the trouble it has been collecting this rebate. If I never get the $30 from KBGear for the other rebate on this, I guess I won't be able to complain too much. Oh, wait - that's not right - I always get to complain!

I bought a JamCam 3.0 at OfficeMax on October 14th for $49.99. There was a $30 rebate for the JamCam (addressed to somewhere in Arizona) to make the price $19.99. I sent in the rebate form along w/ the actual UPC and my reciept on the SAME DAY (Oct. 14), and it said 6-10 weeks. I still haven't gotten it...but there's more.

Here's the bad part. The rebate form lists a phone number to call (1-877-776-3493). When I called today, it gave me another number to call - I called that - and the line's been disconnected.

Am I out of my $30? I was thinking of going to my local OfficeMax B&M and asking if they'll stand behind their 'advertised' price. Any suggestions? Did anyone else participate in this rebate? Is there a number for OM corporate that I can call to complain if, in fact, this rebate doesn't come through?

Well I just received three of the bigger Staples' rebates from Black Friday:

Epson 480SXU Printer: $40 Rebate (Net Cost: $9.94 after rebate)
Memorex 6142U Scanner: $60 Rebate (Net Cost: $9.94 after rebate)
Envision EN-710 17" Monitor $100 Rebate (Net Cost: $59.99 after rebate)

The thing that bothers me about these rebates is that they are sent on post cards that scream "Steal me!". (OK, they don't actually scream but use your imagination.) They are basically checks with the rebate amounts easy to see. I've seen this postcard topic mentioned before but there's nothing like $200 in rebates on three postcards to drive the point home.

And, aside from the theft risk, it would be all too easy to lose one of these in some junk mail.

I wish Staples would send these rebates in envelopes or at least the type of postcards where you have to tear the perforated edge strips off to see that it's a check.

Bob

(I just realized that in addition to posting my rebate tracking info I also "moaned". Is that OK?

I received an email today from Young America on the $100 WD 120 GB Drive stating "REQUIRED LABEL FROM PACKAGE NOT SUBMITTED."

I've looked at the scans that I took and it seems that I submitted the UPC instead. I'm going to call them tomorrow and argue with them about that. but in the mean time, does anyone have a copy of the capacity label for the 120 GB WD drive that they could send my way?

JuMpR629,

If you sent your rebate to Phoenix, AZ then call CPG at 888-314-9903. If you mailed it to Mesa, AZ then call GFS at 888-859-3988. Also check the second post in this thread for more contact details on rebate centers.

This is a well known problem, KB Gear is ouit of business, you are not going to get your rebate.. Assuming that OM advertised the rebate, you should go into your local store and ask them to pay the rebate.

Well, now Microsoft is getting into the business of bogusly rejecting rebates. I sent in a rebate for Zoo Tycoon (rebate form in the XP Launch rebate book). I got a rejection letter today saying that I did not send the UPC. I most definitely did send the UPC, as it's no longer on the boxtop.

Time to call and yell tomorrow.

Anyone get the $80 GC for the 80GB WD HD from Best buy? I submitted around Oct. 15th (deal was same week), and finally called yesterday. They said the rebate didn't get entered into the system until NOV 27!!??!? WTF?? hehe.. anyways, I will not be expecting that one anytime soon.
On the other end of the spectrum, I got my Fuji CDR Rebate in about 2 1/2 weeks. They even let 2 slide by, to the same name and addy! Only $5 each, but it's the principle of the matter here.. They have their sh1t together, unlike some other rebate centers...*cough* *cough*

I don't think this is going to happen. In fact, CPG is also starting to send rebate checks in the form of postcards, and they used to send the fold-up mailers. There's too much savings in postage, and stealing it is probably a federal offense both for mail stealing as well as fraudulently cashing a check (maybe forgery). I personally think that a postcard check is easier to notice than something that comes in an envelope without any indication on the outside what's inside.

Bill,

I figured that the postage costs are driving this but I still find it unsettling to see such large checks exposed like this. I have had at least two friends who have had their mail stolen so I might be a bit more sensitive than most to this.

One friend had one of his banking card/credit card statements stolen and was subsequently subjected to many days of maximum cash withdrawals. These withdrawals were reflected on his banking statements but the statements were being sent to a different address. It was only after he called to asked where his statement was that he figured out what was going on.

On the other hand, I must admit that all of my Staples rebates have made it so far.

Bob
