Rebooting by itself

Hello. My problem is that sometimes my computer restarts by itself, without me doing anything. As far as I know, I have the most updated drivers for my hardware and software. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I just formatted and reinstalled windows so I can start fresh. But it just shuts off and restarts by itself. It doesnt do the windows restart sequence, instead, it just shuts off then restarts. If you need more information than this, I'll be glad to post it. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hmm, what's the specs of your power supply? Are you sure it can handle everything you have? Based on your details, I'm assuming you also have a dvd and/or cd-rw.

Power supply is 420W AMD approved. My CDRW is an external that connects via USB, which has its own power cord. I have had these same specs for a while now. It's just when I formatted and reinstalled windows, this happens.

1) turn off automatic restart. It's in sys properties->advanced->startup and recovery-> automatic reboot. Then, instead of automatically restarting, it will give you a BSOD that shows you a bit more information.

2) Try without overclocking. Setup a stock configuration and see if it still does it.

3) Test/swap RAM out to see if a stick is bad.

4) Last resort- disassemble PC and fire up barebones. Continue to add components until you get the BSOD again.

Try to foramt again if you havent. Maybe something got messed up while copying file and installing?

Sounds like the power supply is a little flakey. Same thing happened to a guy I was helping. Swapped out the PSU and it's been solid since.

Hmm...how do I check if a memory stick is bad. Oh ya, now I have other problems I forgot to mention. When playing a video file, sometimes the computer freezes. The light that indicates that a hard drive is working is constantly on. The file is in the slave drive. Haven't tried it if it was in the master drive. My jumpers on the drives are correct, I checked multiple times. it just does it by random. Oh, and another problem. When I go to Start>Shutdown>Restart or Shutdown...it doesn't Restart/Shutdown right away...I have to do it twice! Thanks for the help.
