Rebooting the servers is not what sucks, what sucks is that they went down.

where I work the entire datacenter is on a central UPS and backup generator. we don't have a separate UPS per rack. we just plug a new server in

the integrated management boards work really well.
For a data center you can get managed power strips to control power as well for added "remoteness"
