When it comes to music genres I haven't been very open-minded, but I'm trying to change that and broaden my horizons. Mainly I've listened to classic rock, hard rock and metal but I've heard some old-school rap (NWA, Wu-Tang, Run DMC) and I like it a lot. My cousin also gave me a CD from a group that he worked with, eLeMeN.O.P and I really liked it. Now, I'm looking for some GOOD rap, not that crappy stuff that plays all over the radio. Any suggestions?

Watch out for Jurrasic 5's new CD coming out later this month. Single with Dave Matthews Band, should be good. Heard a song from the CD in concert (not the DMB song) and it was good.

The Gray Album (Jay-Z mixed with the Beatles)
Juvenille
Mos Def
Method Man
um... I'm not a big rap guy either... mostly old school stuff. Never really got into the 50 Cent ZOMG THUG LIFE G-G-G-G-G-G-G-UNIT stuff.
Eminem had some cool stuff...

Edit: Ah ya, Jurrasic 5 and Roots are pretty good too.

NWA- Straight Outta Compton
Outkast- Aquemini

Those are my favorites. Nice beat, no stupid fake gangsta kiddie stuff like the new crap.

Mr. lif has a new one too...

I phantom is really good.

If you want old school like you kind of hinted at..

kool g rap & DJ polo - wanted dead or alive might be up your alley..

let us know what you like so we can hone our recommendations down.

Asking for "good rap" or "good hiphop" is very subjective and the more groups you tell us you like...the better we can recommend.

---

from rip's list

sage francis -personal jouranlist

blackstar, definitely it's mos def and talib kweli

organized konfusion has a best of album out

everybody loves outkast

mf doom is my favorite mc...madvillian (with madlib) is probably one of the best records I've heard and madlib does sick ****** all around.

if you're looking for more political rap - immortal technique will have your fill.

and just to throw a female artist in there, might want to check out jean grae...her flow is excellent in my opinion.

happy hunting!

p.s. murs - end of the beginning and 3:16 the ninth edition (w/9th wonder) are amazing

St. Elsewhere?

FIXED

I thought he was referring to St. Elsewhere, and I know it's Gnarls Barkley... I wasn't aware of Dangermouse having a solo album (of just beats? ) that's why I had a ? mark.

yah, word on ironman.

I like fishscale...it didn't have great longevity for me, but it got a bunch of solid plays...to me it feels pretty much exactly like supreme clientelle/pretty toney album.

Although, it's been a while since I've listened to either : P

p.s., the song I've been jammin' to constantly is

de la soul - rock co.kane flow feat mf

god i love that track so much.
