Thomas Sowell's "Marxism". Its out of print, but you can find a used copy on Amazon for a few dollars. Marx's work gets a scholarly treatment from Sowell. I don't think you can find a more accurate analysis of Marx's work. Good luck!

Try reading Jack London's "The Iron Heel." It's fiction, but contains more facts than most non-fiction books on the shelf. This book is pure socialistic theory.

the ludwig von mises book is very good, however its a book that shows why socialism could never succeed. if you want a "communist manifesto" type of book about socialism try:

socialism: utopian and scientific by none other than engels (good intro)
state and revolution by lenin.
read trotsky's book as just an interesting follow up to what happened after lenin came into power (i think it's called betraying revolution?)
