Office Depot + HP are accepting all sorts of computer/office electronics. If your area actually enforces laws about tossing monitors, computers, etc. Then this can save you a little cash. I've got somewhere to unload some busted monitors now.

I only throw that stuff away in pieces... always take it apart for the screws, magnets (from the HDs), cables/molex connectors (from the PSU)... and then I often keep some things just cuz, like sticks of RAM, fuses (that I'll never use), and old old procs... if nothing else, you can stick them in geocaches (if you do that). Anyway.
