No this is not an E-Penis credit score post. So please keep it in it in your pants. It is just a simple question.

I already know it will go through but not sure I want it. It is $95 a year just to have it. It has the usual reward points and stuff.

I have five CC ($1000 balance spread across them) but usual stick to Discover with its rewards and % off shopping. I really like the Discover card and do not really want another CC.

I would close one of the others but do not want a hit on my credit score.

To some people it is a status symbol especially the color you get or have (my mine is simple green) but I do not care about the status thing.

Would you take it?

And what's special about an american express card besides having to pay for it? :hmm:

No. I don't use credit cards at all, so I wouldn't. Live within your means. Some people can do that with credit cards, some (like myself) don't have the self control.

I've had one since 95 and I don't recall ever paying an annual fee.

I edited my post but to some it is a status symbol. Many people I know pull it out like you should fall over because they have one. I have a friend that has a black one (credit card you fools) and he lets you know. He will say "Let me pay for lunch. I will just throw it on my AM black card."

American Express is a good card to have if you travel a lot, otherwise the fee is not worth paying. For local and online shopping it's no better than a Visa.

Give $50 to Child's Play instead

Amex are good cards if you're going to buy electronics on. They will match the manufacturer's warranty after it expires. I've had an iPod, TV, monitor, and laptop refunded after the manufacturer's warranty had expired but the Amex hadn't.

Amex Black is a spends-a-lot-of-money status symbol but green and gold are too common to mean anything. Same with a Visa Platinum, it just means "I have a decent job."

Amex Black wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centurion_Card
"The Centurion card is available by invitation only. There is no application process. While American Express does not publicly disclose the requirements for invitation it has been reported that U.S requirements include minimum card activity of $500,000 in a 12 month period, substantial net worth, and exceptional credit history. Requirements may be waived for celebrities or major public figures. Requirements for invitation in other countries may differ."

There is now a Visa Black too but it's just a scam to see who is stupid enough to pay $800 a year for a Visa with black plastic. There are no requirements similar to AmEx, I was offered one and I put less than $20K/year on my credit cards.

Many no annual fee Visa cards do that too.

Very rich douche. He should pay for it anyway. He's loaded

Unless the card offers some features that really do provide a significant value for you (or they pay you a ton of bonus points or cash for signing up as Amex often does), paying an annual fee on a card = fail.

I get good discounts on car rental, vacation packages and free domestic flight upgrades although this year I haven't traveled much. Also gives me exclusive access to shows, dining and insurance discounts and more. Is it worth the annual fee? I don't know but it does give me comfort and a little luxury that I can afford. I don't keep balances though - which is how you're supposed to use Amex.

AMEX Black is, no others are. I have a gold and there's nothing status symbol about it, it's just a card with some good features, good rewards, and the BEST customer service I have ever received. I got the first year free but I will definitely pay the fee for next year because of the customer service.

I have found AMEX customer support to be the best for any cc. That is the best reason for me to keep one as my primary card.

Yea, every time I have had to deal with their customer service (and only waited 10 mins at the longest to boot), they have been very friendly and helpful.

I have an Amex Blue Cash for about 2 years, and it's been great for us. We paid it off every month and made some money on the cash back every November. The card is clear and sparkly though. We always get double-takes on it.

I wouldn't get one with an annual fee though. Not worth it IMO.

I was offered a Amex black, and I'm a student with a wife making 50k We put about $25k on the card per year, and pay off the full balance each month.

Why? To impress your friends with a high priced status symbol! Shred and burn.
