Hey guy's, new member here looking for some help!

Looking to buy a new 5.1 setup for my office. Was looking for some suggestions on receivers and how to set it up.

I wanted to hook up the Receiver from my PC/PS3/HDTV with a 4-5 speaker setup with a subwoofer.

I was thinking of getting this sound card http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16829132006 (ASUS Xonar DX 7.1) as I don't think my onboard sound is as good. (Mother Board model ASUS M4A79XTD EVO)

I was thinking of either the Denon E300 http://usa.denon.com/us/product/pag...eceivers(denonna)&pid=avre300(denonna)http:// or the Yamaha RXV 475 http://ca.yamaha.com/en/products/au...s-amps/rxv-series/rx-v475_black_u/?mode=model

I don't really need the spotify or airplay features as I live in Canada and the CRTC isn't allowing those features. I mainly watch movies from my PC and play games like BF3 and The Witcher 2. The Ps3 is currently waiting for GTAV.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated even if it's a whole different receiver.

My Budget is around $500 CAD for the receiver.

I would skip the sound card if your PC has a decent video card, you should use the HDMI audio out from that. (will also give you DTS HD Master Audio)

With either receiver you should be able to connect all of your components via HDMI into the receiver and run one HDMI to your TV.

I personally like the Denon because it has an Audyssey function which makes the speaker set-up much easier.

I currently use a Denon 1712 AVR and I am very happy with it.

Like others have said, just use the HDMI connection on your video card to feed the audio to the receiver this way there is no need for a sound card or the extra cables.

I would go for the E400, it has better automatic speaker calibration, Audyssey MultEQ XT and it supports 7.1 speakers and it is on sale right now at $500. at futureshop.

If you don't like using an HDMI for video and audio, you should have an optical port on your mobo's sound card that you can connect to your receiver and run HDMI from your video card for video. This assumes you're not going to need/want to use any of your receiver's video features.

Either the Denon or Yamaha will suffice. I went through the same thing and went with the Yamaha but due to Denon having Airplay issues. Last receiver was a Denon 1612 that I loved that died due to lightning. When it comes to receiver I always get last year model unless the new models have a feature you need. In general you get a lot more for the money spent that way.
