Receiver turns off by itself

Hi, does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Is it the problem with wires, or the receiver?

My home theatre has been working until last night. The amp would shut itself down. I turned it on again and was able to keep it on (and play sound through the speaker) before it shuts off agian.

i am using a pair of bookshelf speakers, yamaha 5730s , moster thx cables (i didnt know they were crap whenI bought them) and the chaintech av-710 using optical output.

Do you have enough air flow around it. Maybe it's over heating.

This is usually caused by a short circuit in the speaker wires. The amp shuts itself down to prevent blowing itself up.

If your speaker wires are stranded, ensure that there's no strands of wires loose touching things they shouldn't be touching. I'd suggest rewiring all your speakers, being very careful to ensure all strands of the wires are properly inserted in the binding posts.

If that doesn't work, try new speakers to determine if the problem lies with the amp or the speakers.

I believe theres a problem with the amp

after disconnecting the amp from the spakers by removing the wires, the amp would still give that error message when play music on my computer
(funny that it gives me the message when there are no speakers wires connected to the amp

Yeah, NogginBoink's about got this one...should be a short somewhere, just recheck your connections, and if need be, remove them all and redo it one by one making sure the receiver's working after each new speaker connection.
