Some newer games run noticeably faster, others the same. HT is still very good for apps though (+20% on X264 encoding). The effect of HT also varies from 2C vs 2C/4T compared to 4C vs 4C/8T. There's often quite a large +30-40% gap between a Pentium and i3 at same clock, but often only a 10-20% gap on i5 vs i7 (the reason being a 4 thread game will use all the "real" cores first on an i7 with HT only sporadically used whereas HT gets used much more on an i3 due to having only two "real" cores).
