How many Nvidia fans have opted to go to ATI recently, say at the 570 level or above?

I only tried ATI once and had driver problems...

Are you asking how many got 6970's and 6990's? any why they didnt instead get a 580?

Does the level of performance matter? in this question.
Im only rocking a 5870, but i ll say Ive not run into driver issues and consider this "ati driver issues" as nvidia fanboy fud.

I'm just asking who switched to ATI from Nvidia, who bought or was considering buying a GTX570, 580, or 590 and what swayed them to make the switch...

lol i know EXACTLY how you felt!

actually no ... its more like im amazed at how much ATI has cleaned up there drivers.

The new cards tho 5800 series and up, have great drivers from what im reading.

I'm just asking who switched to ATI from Nvidia, who bought or was considering buying a GTX570, 580, or 590 and what swayed them to make the switch...

I ultimate had to look at who has the better RMA service.
That being said and my location being USA, nothing beats eVGA. :X
Unfortunately eVGA doesnt make ATi cards.

But id have to say ultimately its at what resolution your going to play games on, and which games you are going to play, that should be the final deciding factor.

Oh and a very big "how much am i willing to spend".

From a GTX 280 to a 5870 and couldn't be happier. Drivers are not an issue and if somebody tells you they have an issue, then he/she is full of it.

AMD is really strong in multi card setups due to excellent CF scaling, offers 2GB of memory as standard and prices are competitive.

Since you have a 570 i would only consider 580, 590 or AMD 6990. You have a great card.

I don't think some understand his post...

He wants to know how many, if any, people who WERE considering a GTX 570 (or higher) and went with an AMD option instead, having owned Nvidia prior. And then the reasons why they made the switch.

I'm sure there are a few 6950 users out there who went for the early batches that could be easily modded to a 6970 to achieve 570 level performance for a good deal cheaper

Before building my new system i had HD4870X2, so I did not really swich, but i did evaluate both camps without bias, i had 2 nvidia cards before the 4870x2 radeon, and chose radeon hd6990. I made that choice before 590 was ever released, so "exploding cards" were not a factor.

1. Power draw of 580 > power draw of 6970, this told me that nvidia will hit thermal and pcie spower barriers before ATI does with 6990s. (keep in mind 590s and 6990s were not released yet)
2. I was going to go full out so i was going to get 2 cards. The power draw of then non-existing 590s scared me. I did not want to spend extra $300 on a 1500W PSU. I settled on 1000W PSU + 450W drop in PSU. But a 1200W single PSU would be enough for 2x 6990s OCed.
3. I wanted to OC, so my final power draw would be HUGE, this is why I wanted smallest stock power draw on a high end card.
4. Originally I did not plan to go water cooling, so once again I wanted the least power hungry card of the 2 ultra high end cards.

I did not worry about drivers, because its just software which can be pached, updated etc. I wanted the best hardware for my new computer I could get, and due to power limitations 6990 sealed the deal for me.

I went from a GTX470 to an HD6950 unlocked into a 6970. The 6950 cost a full $100 less than the 570 and provides similar performance once unlocked into a 6970. Once I sold the 470, I was only $40 out of pocket to upgrade. Seemed like a no brainer vs. paying $140 to upgrade to the 570. The drivers are working perfectly fine.

The 6970 is also gives me more credits per day in Distributed Computing projects I run.

I figure I'll reinvest that $100 savings into Kepler or HD7000 series. Didn't make any sense to me to pay $100 more for the GTX570 since it can't really outperform the 6970.

im kind of in the middle : I switched last round from Nv to ATI, went safe & tried the 5750 - didnt find any of the driver issues that i read about in here so often. just bought a 6990 last evening, now going to build a rig to house it over the coming weeks (work is a b***h) - guess ill find out soon enough what the value factor is

/pcm81 - what case / tower do you have? think im going to be posting some related threads on how to build for this thing

Went from a 8800GTX (which I loved, power-hungry monster that it was) to a 4870x2 (see a trend here?) and wanted to get the 6990. This was back in October 2010.

Then the whole 6900 series was looking to be delayed, AMD wasn't talking, so I bought a 580. Worked fantastic for a month and then suddenly exhibited massive hardware and software problems that were not fixed with a replacement card, reinstall of the OS, or any other driver revisions. Gave up, went with the then available 6950s, so far so good.

I still can't understand the super brand loyalty for green and red. I have always just went with what was the best performance for how much I was willing to spend.

Drivers are not an issue and if somebody tells you they have an issue, then he/she is full of it.

Why would you make such a statement when referencing a company that has a monthly (and sometimes even more frequent) driver release schedule plus hotfixes?

If the drivers weren't an issue, wouldn't that driver update frequency and hotfix, patch, beta release frequency be a lot closer to zero?

Obviously there ARE driver issues, hence the frequent updates to the drivers.

But why try and act like it isn't true? Every product out there that can be updated has an update cycle to it, from your mobo's BIOS to the security updates for your OS to the firmware for your SSD to the drivers for your GPU. If everything was perfect then there'd be no need for updates, but nothing is ever perfect and thank god we get updates to correct the less acceptable problems in time.

I think what Gikaseixas meant to say is that some people imply that ATI has huge game-breaking issues with their drivers and Nvidia's drivers are perfect so that should be the reason to never buy an ATI product. That is obviously not true, or as you said, Nvidia wouldn't need to release new driver versions on a regular basis (just like ATI does).

Moved to AMD with the 5870 launch. For the HDMI audio output and capability to run 3 monitors on a single card... my driver issues reduced from when I was on Nvidia. AMD has the gold standard drivers in today's market.

It just means they actually care. Rapid development is how everything is going today, from Chrome to Firefox to video card drivers.. you get the fixes out there.
New games come out every week. AMD is the only responsible company in the market today compared to NV and Intel.

Went from a GTX 460 to a AMD 6950, but it wasn't really a switch since I flip-flop a lot between the two GPU companies. I was intrigued by the ability to unlock a HD 6950->6970 and that's pretty much how I ended up with what I have.

@ Fardringle & Obsolete thx for understanding what i actually meant.

IDC by your logic nVidia has the same issues. They too have monthly updates, beta releases and so on. I have cards from both companies and they're both working great. Never had an issue with either my 5870 or the 5650M in my laptop so lets put this ATI drivers suck to rest cuz it's not the case at all.

wait...so in Gikaseixas-speak this:
Drivers are not an issue and if somebody tells you they have an issue, then he/she is full of it.

means this:

Ok then. I did not see that coming at all.

IDC by your logic nVidia has the same issues. They too have monthly updates, beta releases and so on.

Of course, this it is self-evident, yes? They both have driver issues, hence the existence of driver updates that go beyond the hardware release cycle itself.

Well i have a 5850 running for a year with 0 issues whatsoever.

On the other hand, I gave away my old pc to my parents with an NV card. Re-installed windows before that and the card would just not run properly with the driver downloaded from NVIDIA driver download page. (black screen)

The solution was to dump the driver and let windows detect the missing driver and install it from windows update. then it works...however its an outdated version
