No. This is true of ANY dog that isn't dog-socialized. I could write reams about this, but I'll keep it short.

Non-socialized dogs can't speak dog. Think about a human raised by dogs and how they'd act around another human. They just wouldn't speak the same langauge. Yes, I'm serious. A non-socialized dog doesn't understand the cues when another dogs makes the "you're my bitch cause I'm the alpha" movements.

Dogs rarely, if ever, truly fight unless they can't speak dog. If they can speak dog, they'll have a short conversation: their hackles go up, they snarl, and they might fight for a few seconds until one establishes dominance. That's it. That's how dogs keep social order, and it's a lot fucking more straightforward than our human system.

Another problem is stupid owners. You do NOT introduce dogs on one of the dog's home turf. If you do, the dog who is on his own turf will immediately go into "this is my terroritory and I'm alpha" mode, and there's gonna be a throwdown. You introduce them elsewhere. In the road or in some other neutral territory. Once they talk and decide to get along and ignore eachother, then you can take them to one of the dog's homes.

There's a whole list of ways to do this. Unfortunately the urban trash who pick pits for their fierce nature don't ever teach their dog how to be a dog, and as a result they end up as a pseudo-dog who can't speak to other dogs, and only has one response.
Well put.

Dogs are too much of a hassle. picking up poop, cleaning up hair, and their urine ruins the grass. No thanks.

My dog's urine makes the grass greener but the weird thing is my previous dog's urine did cause some browning but in any event a small price to pay for a dog, I love 'em, nice dog OP..

It seems to vary from dog to dog. My neighbors have two labs and only the female's urine scorches the lawn.

Sooooo, still no name?

KT

Daughter wants to name him Bojangles. I could live with "Bo" for short.

Current operating name is "Bubba" as per Georgia law stating each household must contain at least one mammal with this name.

There's no truth to pit bulls being any more likely to be problem dogs than any other breed inherently. That behavior generally comes from dumbassery on the owner's part.

I have a friend who has a Pit mix and it's great, even with small children. It's really nothing more than a myth.

Just because you think it's not true doesn't make it a myth. There is plenty of data to backup the claim that pitbulls are more dangerous than other dogs. Common sense tells you that large and powerful dogs are more dangerous than smaller dogs all else held equal. Pitbulls are also unquestionably more aggressive than breeds such as labs. I haven't even touched on the recent selective breeding that increases aggression for dog fighting.

None of this means that all pitbulls are bad, but you are being willfully ignorant if you claim they aren't more dangerous than a toy poodle.

Let me weigh in as a long time dog and cat owner. Especially given the fact you are not dealing with a pure breed dog.

Dogs are what you make them, they might have some inbred dog instincts, but as soon as they get deleted with other breeds they tend to loose any breed identity.

As for me, I have found the best dogs are those that come from hunting breeds. And also Dobermans and also some of their bigger guard dog breeds. You can train them to be mean but failing that they are overgrown pussy cats.

It just depends on how you raise and socialize them.

Not always, some dogs have a nature that will never change. Like try to get a beagle to not beg for food.

So apparently this dog is a pit-ninja mix. He got over a 3' tall baby gate yesterday while wearing his radar dish collar (we just had him fixed).

I thought about trying to make the gate taller, but figured he'd probably just get over that and then hurt himself falling down the other side, so he's got the run of the living room and kitchen today.

I dearly hope I don't come home to a war zone.

Okay I did it.

Friend has a beagle that doesn't beg for food. This was accomplished by not giving it food other than its own. What was your point now?

Congrats on adopting a rescue animal Fausto. The dog has a cute face. When our old dog passes on I'll be adopting a rescue also, most likely a ridgeback mix.

Congrats OP. I'm looking for a second dog to add to our family. My new place has a fenced in yard, so now a second pooch would work out nicely.
