Yeah, I think he's going to be pretty big. He's just over 4 months now and already 30lbs.
Seriously? Damn. What is he mixed with? Considering his forehead, he looks like a Pit/American Bulldog mix. If he is 30lbs at 4 months, he is definately mixed with a larger dog.
So apparently this dog is a pit-ninja mix. He got over a 3' tall baby gate yesterday while wearing his radar dish collar (we just had him fixed).
I thought about trying to make the gate taller, but figured he'd probably just get over that and then hurt himself falling down the other side, so he's got the run of the living room and kitchen today.
I dearly hope I don't come home to a war zone.
Sounds about right, my ridgeback was 16 pounds when we brought him home at 8 weeks, was 30 pounds inside another month, and then really took off growing, about 4 pounds a week for a while. He gained most of his size by 8 months, and stopped completely by 10 or so.I am thinking some kind of hound actually. He's got the long legs, ears and face you see with several of the southern hound breeds.

Yeah, my guy is at 111 right now, trying to get him down to 105 or less. It's hard to walk him enough with the weather getting bad now, he detests rain.I used to work for a bike shop whose "shop dog" was a male ridgeback. He ended up topping out at something like 110lbs.

But he bitches up a storm at night if we don't walk him for a few days.
We walk him about 15-20 min in the morning (just to go to the bathroom) and I off leash him about 30 min at night, about 4 nights a week. He does just fine, been doing that for a year and he's a little over 2. He loves his squirrel hunting though. How old is he?
My 3 year old ridgeback is at 106lbs right now and needs at least 1 hour of either wrestling at the dog park or running a day. Up til he was around 18 months, he needed almost 4 hours of hard play time.
My two old RRs also had high energy levels that didn't slow down til they were close to 7. Used to have to run them daily.
I'd probably like cats more if I weren't violently allergic to them. They sorta do their own thing, generally. I can dig it.
Something I find funny though is that a lot of cats are just assholes. While a dog will run into your stuff and knock it over because he's oblivious to it being there and how basic physics work, a cat will survey the situation and deliberately push your coffee onto the floor just to be a dick.
So we're nearly a month in and so far he's 100% awesome. I've been taking him to drop off/pick up the kids from school and he's all wags and licks even when a dozen little kids are swarming him trying to pet him.
I think he's going to be pretty damn big tho, he's 5 month old end of this month and he's already over 30lbs.
Haha, no. He'd generally not awake long enough to attack and kill anything bigger than a chewstick. You mean he hasn't attacked and killed your whole family yet?!?!

I put an actual baby in front of him last night and all he did was wag his tail and lick it. Worst. Pit Bull. Ever.
Why were you trying to sacrifice a baby?
There's no truth to pit bulls being any more likely to be problem dogs than any other breed inherently. That behavior generally comes from dumbassery on the owner's part.
I have a friend who has a Pit mix and it's great, even with small children. It's really nothing more than a myth.
