That dog is likely to be nothing but trouble as it gets older, being a pit-bull cross. WTF were you thinking?

There's no truth to pit bulls being any more likely to be problem dogs than any other breed inherently. That behavior generally comes from dumbassery on the owner's part.

I have a friend who has a Pit mix and it's great, even with small children. It's really nothing more than a myth.

Not quite. Owning something like a Pomeranian is far stronger grounds for revocation than a cat.

ture, pomeranians are some of the most worthless animals out there.

but there is no court on the planet that would agree that cats are superior to dogs.

I'm not really a cat guy but I'm not a detractor either. I've met some maine coons that were pretty awesome.

He's actually a mix. At any rate, I like the breed. Our last dog was a pit-boxer mix and was 100% awesome in all respects. He was great with other dogs, people, the kids, and was an excellent watchdog. So far, the new guys looks to be more of the same.

My problem with pits are they like to fight with other pits and where I live everyone has a pitbull. I have plenty of friends with them and some have had to pay monstrous vet bills because other peoples pits go after theirs or the other way around. Also, like any other terrier, I wouldn't trust them alone around small children, not that I have any of those. Lastly, because there are so many puppy farms breeding pits they tend to end up with weird ailments.

Anyway, enough naysaying, hope you enjoy your dog and it lives a long happy healthy life.

As I said earlier, it's all about socialization and mantaining your position as the Alpha of the household. Neglect these two things and any reasonably smart dog is going to become an asshole. I shake my head every time I see a family with a Jack Russell or similar dog that runs the show.

I'd probably like cats more if I weren't violently allergic to them. They sorta do their own thing, generally. I can dig it.

Something I find funny though is that a lot of cats are just assholes. While a dog will run into your stuff and knock it over because he's oblivious to it being there and how basic physics work, a cat will survey the situation and deliberately push your coffee onto the floor just to be a dick.

Hmm. Looks pretty young (although it's hard to tell from that pic). I have found that getting a dog to walk on a leash starts with getting it used to wearing a collar all the time and then working with them bit by bit on the leash. Be consistent about which side you walk them on and maintain a fairly short lead so you have control over them. It honestly just might take the pup getting a little older for this to work. They have the attention span of a toddler on a coffee binge when they're little.

Funny, our last one never went off. May have been defective.

good friend of mine has 3 pits. a 8mo old female blue he just rescued is a bit aggressive with male dogs, which causes issues with his 13 yr old red. the other female took her under as daughter tho, they have scuffled a few times, but generally its all good. both his other dogs are over 11 yrs old and have never attacked anyone. must be defective too.

I also recently picked up a little 4 legged friend. She was out in my front yard getting drenched and starving. She's stuck wearing that get up till the abscess on her left front limb heals up. Hoping antibiotics do the trick.

There are instances such as this for most large breeds. Dog fatalities are so rare by year that the statistics associated with them are borderline meaningless. Peanut allergies kill more kids than dogs ever will.
When I have kids, I'll take my chances with peanut butter.

Dog looks great. Good luck with the new pet.

I love my pit-boxer mix (6 yrs old now) - extremely loving dog, great with family.

Good looking dog, and extra points for adoption. We recently added another to our family as well, his name is Bear, after Bear Bryant. Irish wolfhound, Lab mix. At 6 months old he weighed 55 lbs and was bigger than our 5 year old black lab. By 7 months he has already protected our son from another dog, and taken on a opossum and killed it.

Dogs are too much of a hassle. picking up poop, cleaning up hair, and their urine ruins the grass. No thanks.

No. This is true of ANY dog that isn't dog-socialized. I could write reams about this, but I'll keep it short.

Non-socialized dogs can't speak dog. Think about a human raised by dogs and how they'd act around another human. They just wouldn't speak the same langauge. Yes, I'm serious. A non-socialized dog doesn't understand the cues when another dogs makes the "you're my bitch cause I'm the alpha" movements.

Dogs rarely, if ever, truly fight unless they can't speak dog. If they can speak dog, they'll have a short conversation: their hackles go up, they snarl, and they might fight for a few seconds until one establishes dominance. That's it. That's how dogs keep social order, and it's a lot fucking more straightforward than our human system.

Another problem is stupid owners. You do NOT introduce dogs on one of the dog's home turf. If you do, the dog who is on his own turf will immediately go into "this is my terroritory and I'm alpha" mode, and there's gonna be a throwdown. You introduce them elsewhere. In the road or in some other neutral territory. Once they talk and decide to get along and ignore eachother, then you can take them to one of the dog's homes.

There's a whole list of ways to do this. Unfortunately the urban trash who pick pits for their fierce nature don't ever teach their dog how to be a dog, and as a result they end up as a pseudo-dog who can't speak to other dogs, and only has one response.
