how are these recession proof? People use less power if they want to save money; you could say that some people with extremely tight budgets might take measures to save on their water bills also

realistically, whether some people pay their bills or not, and whether the average daily use is high or low, if the utilities are in business and turned on, that maintenance, upkeep and management will happen. it doesnt take less people to do the jobs just because water use dropped 20%. what will happen tho, and is in lots of places, the nonessential positions will get cut down to the minimum req to stay open. even those maint guys will get put on cut hours, pay freezes and laid off if necessary to help the bottom line. ive seen it all over the water industry so far.

Pfft, that's nothing. We had a Panasonic 150 inch plasma here recently. There's just something wrong with a TV that is taller than you are. Hell, I couldn't even touch the top of it with my hand while standing on my tiptoes. I was told it cost $80k, but I don't know how accurate that figure is; I would figure it was a lot more.

its MORE green, theres 4 less watts being sucked up. over that 50k hours, how much electricity is being saved? thats less demand on the plants, less fuel needed to create electricity at those plants as well as a warm, fuzzy feeling. it costs money to save the world.

Not necessarily that bad an idea. It costs considerably more for a company to change a light bulb than it does for the light bulb.

Someone has to spend time reporting the failed bulb. Maintenance have to send a guy down with ladder and tools. Someone has to take the old CFL and store it for disposal as toxic-waste. Contractors have to be paid to haul the toxic waste away.

By the time you've added up the time for everyone involved, you could easily be up to $20 just to change the bulb - and that's assuming it's a standard ceiling fitting. All bets are off, if it's very high up, or outside. Heck, health and safety laws over here prevent the use of ladders that more than 4 feet high. If you've got a light on top of a pole or half way up a wall, you have to erect some sort of scaffold, or if outside you need to use a telescopic lift vehicle.

Of course, LED lights might be good for the company - but they're not so great if you're the maintenance guy.

Back in March-June '08 when it was claimed we were in a recession (lol) there were quite a few sectors of the economy that were experiencing growth.
