you were joking in this thread.. but in the asus one you were crying your head off.

regardless of that stupid drama.. i think im staying with the DFI for various reasons.. i tested the Asus one last time before I put it on ebay.
that way i know it works so some bastard cant break it and tell me i sent him a broken board...
HEY looks like I deliver better quality service than DFI!!

I'd stick the Asus back in and game happily if I didnt have everything torn apart, but might as well go with the DFI now.

not much gaming to be done on this willamette P4 that my wife uses for Ebay.. oh well gives me some downtime to get some other stuff done

You are delusional. You have got me confused with someone who actually gives a flying flock. I think I told you that then too. The DFI is a decent board, but as I said---they have a known problem with their packaging dept. There have been lots of boards arriving with broken parts rattleing around in the box. Damn shame too, something as simple as packaging.

i'll praise DFI for support if that guy at DFI street helps me.. that would be exceptional.. otherwise, I'm still going to use the DFI..

but never again after this rig.

I understand that feeling...engineering wise, I think the Ultra D is a good board...but as a company, I think DFI is lacking. Poor customer support...I had to beg for a reply when I outed them on the packaging problems. I'm sure they had known for quite some time...but it was cheaper for them to deal with a few RMA's rather than redesign packaging and admit they screwed up (which they never did). I finally got satisfaction and customer support not from DFI, but from Monarch Computers, who I bought the board from. After 2 weeks of trying to get DFI to come out and say "It's a problem, we will fix it for you" the ETAILER did it instead, even though it was not their problem.

Not sure I will use DFI after this board either...there are too many excellent products out there from better, customer oriented companies to settle on one.

ya well, a little class action lawsuit will fix those assholes up real fast.

everyone thinks they can step on the little guys.. until some greedy lawfirm comes in and wipes the smirk off their faces.

spoken like a true American!

just kidding man, sorry to hear that your DFI was busted up... have heard about this from a few other people on various forums.

Is it runnable like, at all? I know you were looking for a higher vcore than the Asus could provide.

Nah it wouldnt work at all. The power LED lights on the board would light up with the power cable connected, but no boot. It'd just sit there when I hit the power button.

I found a capacitor too, but wasnt 100% sure it was from this board so I didnt blame DFI for that. All that stuff in the pics though was sliding around the antistatic bag, including a piece of solder connection.. so I'm sure that stopped continuity somewhere.

We'll see how they treat me at DFI street.. this whole charade is going to form my opinion on DFI for good.. we'll see if they handle it like gentlemen, or if i have to RMA it to the retailer.

Which i think it is completely absurd in this situation where they've admitted fault.
Neither I, nor the retailer should take the hit for this. Heck, you'd think DFI would step in to save face from their retailers..

this has been a big deal it seems for ZZF/Newegg... not a wise idea on DFI's part.

They may get shining reviews and have the best board out.. but if you cant actually deliver it kinda defeats the purpose.

they aren't denying the problem. if this happened to you, their RMA dept should fix you up fine!

come on, they arent out to screw people over...

neither have they truly admitted the problem...to my knowledge, they haven't fixed it either. If they don't, then they are irresponsible. I'm going to withhold judgement for now, but I'm not impressed with DFI at the moment.

I was originally going to get the Ultra-D, until I kept hearing all of these packaging stories, damaged boards, bad support etc. (see sig "Changes Made")

Now I am waiting for the second batch of NF4 boards to come out, such as the Soltek one, ASUS A8N-E Premium, and A8N SLI-Premium. Maybe the new ASUS ones will OC better.

ya that angry games guy is kind of being an ass to me about it.

like i said, i'll see if he gives me the run around or not and judge then. he is a fulltime paid dfi employee.. if hes a asshole then to me, the company is.

well, i can no longer talk smack on DFI.

they are helping me out. but do not do advance replacements because ppl would refuse to send the original board back, even with credit card number.
shame on those people.

i'm glad they are taking care of me, considering i do not believe it is the retailers responsibility to take care of this issue.

I'm glad to hear DFI is doing something for you on this, I want to try their board out but this is the issue that's been making me hesitant and LanParty boards are impossible to find at B&M shops around here. I guess I'll log on to Newegg and cross my fingers...

you'll be fine, just get your board from zipzoomfly or newegg.. they have both been hit by this issue most of all, being the larger distributors.
they are more likely to be checking the boards at this point.

if not, at least you know DFI is indeed helping people first hand.. make sure you keep your reciept though.

Good to see they didn't pass the buck on this issue. DFI is pretty standup on these kinds of problems---alot cheaper for them to get this resolved in house though.

Another week or so housecat and you'll be cruising in the fast lane.

I figure they'd be retards to not handle it themselves.. its a good little test to see if they are a very intelligent organization.

Because if they dont take care of these things, then the retailer takes the hit on shipping, loses another board (hopefully good one this time) for replacement (one less to sell).. and the dead board goes back to DFI anyway!

So instead of hurt their retailer relations, they get to boost their reputation with everyone if they just do this themselves.
I think theres less money (indirectly) lost in the end.

It will be nice to have my rig back, but I'd rather see that 24" dell lcd go back down to $860 or so.. been waiting on that one.

Figured out how to get the karajan front port audio to be reachable by the super lanboy plugs.. I hope the sound quality is alot better with that unit, just getting it off the board probably amounts to most of the onboard audio issues.

I dont think they are.. but I havent recieved my RMA email back from them yet.

It doesnt bother me to send it back, as long as they fix or replace it and send it back promptly.

I just got a damaged board also, but not as bad. The power switch was raised, but the mobo is DOA..

My first Ultra-D had zero problems, all I can say is I never had these problems before this new platform.

It seems all companies have one thing or other that's wrong.

Regards,
Jose

I must say, my Asus was flawless. No packaging errors, nothing.
The board had no inherant flaws due to the "new NF4" either. I didnt encounter any bugs with my particular setup.

There is no perfect board really.
I'd consider DFI the best though, if they could ship these out differently. I'm sure they will from now on.

bah!! I would not allow them to get away with not paying for shipping your bad card back. Why should any of us pay one red cent to fix their screw-ups? That is what I mean when I say they have not admitted the problem...they need to say "Our packaging of these boards was not what it should have been, we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers. We will pay for you to ship your defective board back to DFI. Thank you for your patronage of our products."

THAT is what a good company would do.
