I'm looking to get something on the nicer side. I've got a $50 credit at shoptoshiba.com, and I've had good experience with NEC, so I was looking into the NEC MultiSync 1760NX.
17-inch (17.0" viewable image size), active
matrix, thin film transistor (TFT), liquid
crystal display (LCD), 0.264 mm dot pitch,
260 cd/m2 white luminance -
typical, 450:1 contrast ratio - typical,
16ms response time - typical
Specs

Its says it has a 16ms response time, so I'm thinking it has the same screen as the Hitachi reviewed by Anand. Can anyone verify this?

The only problem is I don't think it has A/V inputs, which I would like to have so I can play gamecube in my room on it.

Anyone know of anything similar that might have both dvi and A/V ins?

This monitor is $549 - my $50 credit at shoptoshiba.com. Is this a good deal?

thanks

[edit] changed component inputs to say A/V inputs, thanks LED [/edit]

i don't know of any lcd's that have component in. Just vga and dvi. You could probably get an adapter box for it.

Really? Maybe I am using the wrong word?

What are the three connectors found on most vcr's and some tv's now, that are red, white, and yellow called?

I swear I've seem LCD's in best buy with these.

Anyone?

That is called component in, there are also seperate video in/out jacks, but component sends one color component per cable.

Two things.
1) Get the Hitachi CML174SXW(ivory) or CML174SXWB(carbon)
2) The only LCDs that im aware of that have A/V inputs are, simply put, crap. Get a good LCD monitor, such as the above, and a VGA box(i think thats what they`re called). You can plug any A/V source(Co-axial, S-Video, Composite, scart, ect into it, and have it displyed on your monitor via the standard D-SUB connector.

Let me know how it goes if you get a VGA box, cos i`m thinking of getting one.

I own a 1760NX and I love it. Super fast response time.

All 16ms LCD's are made by the same manufacturer AU Optronics so this LCD is basically the same as the Hitachi. Its just the packing, backlight, and some of the electronics that may be different. I find this LCD to be very responsive and it I only paid 2/3 the price I would have for the Hitachi.

As for the Component in the only ones I have seen are kinda crappy and only 15inch.

No, The responce time sucks.
15+30=45ms responce time. Very bad for games/consoles.

Have a look on a specialist console games & accessories website. Thats where i first spotted them.
There will be a few advertisments in the US version of Cube Mag, so go and find that mag, flick to the ads, remember the sites, and off you go!!!

Tell me how it goes please, cos i`m considering doing this.

Cool. I've been searching since I posted and found a few. I'll definately let you know how it goes and what the quality is.

Do you think I'd be able to attach the box to the VGA port on my monitor, and my pc to the DVI port? That would probably be the best bet, right??

You mean so that you can switch between the two inputs, on the TFTs OCD?
Sure it`d work.
I had my Radeon9700pro fooled into thinking that i had two Hitachi TFTs by using both the DVI/DSUB at the same time. Pointless i know.

I`d have it set like this:
GameCube --> VGA Box via the best connection you have.
VGA Box --> TFT via DSUB.
PC Video Card --> to TFT Via the DVI(if you have it on both the TFT & Video card)

PM me or something depending on when you do the above. Cos by then, this post could have been archived.

get Planar PX171M with 16ms response time.

I have used this for a bout 2 weeks now and it is absolutely amazing. No noticeable blurring. Thats impressive because I am an aggressive gamer.

I played FPS and RTS.

Even when I am not running in its native resolution, I notice almost no change in quality and ghosting.

I have been a CRT user for all my life. Former user of Sony Trinitron 19' Multiscan E400

it looks great with my tv tuner as well

BTW, I got mine at Dell for $470

Look for their coupons and sales

EDIT: Running on DVI

If you can afford it, get the Samsung 172T.

It's got a higher contrast ratio than the Hitachi that was mentioned above, but does a slightly lower response time.

If you're not an aggressive gamer then you won't notice any blurring.

My 18.1" Compaq TFT8030 LCD has 6 inputs

2 DVI
2 15 pin DSUB VGA
1 RCA composite video
1 S-video

Works really well, you can switch between inputs quickly and best of all it has picture-in-picture.
