I have a MSI board that I really don't like, not to mention the case. So I'm looking to get the Antec P180 and a new mobo. However, all the new boards are for newer Intel chips, and my old P4 3ghz is chugging away just fine after four years., so I see no need to replace it. Can anyone recommend a good 478-pin mobo?

Also, I am open to being convinced to make the jump for PCIe. Currently I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 and it's serving me exceptionally well in Half Life 2 and Doom 3. If you can make an argument for upgrading to a PCIe card, I'll do it. But I need convincing.

ASUS P4P800e Deluxe - is what I have. Great overclocker, Im VERY pleased with the stability, no problems whatsoever.
I don't think PCIe is useful for you anyways -> 478 platforms only support AGP unfortunately. There's no 478 PCIe board out, you' dhave to move to LGA775... You're fine .

Wait..... you've had a P4 3Ghz for FOUR YEARS? FOUR? !!!!

I second the P4P800, I had one, ran my 2.8ghz prescott at 3.5ghz on it. As for there being no socket 478 motherboards with PCIe thats not exactly acurate..I found this one. But I don't see a need to jump in to a PCIe card when the one you have is already pretty decent.

I goofed my math. I've had a 3ghz since they first hit the market, whenever that is, I've lost track.

Guess I'll go with the Asus, although I'd like to know that my Radeon will be good for another 2-3 years. Video performance was never an issue when I was playing EverQuest, but now that I've ditched that bad habit for HL2 and Doom3, frame rate is suddenly an issue for me again. I'll be going to the big southern California computer show this weekend. Hopefully the Antec P180 will be available, too.

That is an excellent find. I think I will buy one just to throw my Northwood in and compare it directly with my A64 with my X800XL. That is going to be awesome fun!

Hmm, I would check again, looks like it might only support prescotts..didn't notice that at first, only that it was 478 with pciE

In addition to the mATX boards listed here, there are:

ASUS P4GD1

ASUS P4GPL-X

I'm sure more S478 boards with PCIe are planned.

Is it worth it? I've yet to see a good AGP vs. PCIe video comparison, but then again I haven't looked a whole lot. Most benchmarks I've seen have simply been PCIe to PCIe comparisons.

PCIe does offer more bandwidth, but none of the cards out there can even fully utilize AGP 8x bandwidth yet. PCIe will offer more of a benifit in the future. Unless you want to use an SLI setup, PCIe doesn't really have a benifit.
