Recommend a gaming monitor for me. I have a 6600k, 16gb ddr 4 3000mhz, GTX 1070 SC. I play all kind of games from MMO to first person shooting. I heard the common issue is whether to get a 1440p monitor with 144hz TN panel or even IPS panel. Or get a 4k with 60hz IPS panel. Im honestly not sure what to get. 4k is definitely the future and not 1440p with 144hz. I wont be buying another monitor for many years. I am ill using my Samsung T240 1080p monitor from 10 years ago and it still works great. My budget would be $1000 Canadian MAX. So about $700 USD max.

If you want to go 4k you will need at least the 1080 and even then that would be good for medium settings on some of the higher end games otherwise you would need the titan.

The 1070 will work ok for 1440p but again the 1080 shines there, especially for the 144hz version, so in either case you probably will need a better gpu.

Also make sure you go for g-sync if you do go for 144hz.

In either case these are probably your best 2 options for "gaming" monitors that fits this area:

https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x...f=sr_1_17?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479265824&sr=1-17

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predato...f=sr_1_15?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1479265824&sr=1-15

However these are both above your $700 so unless you can find another type for a deal it could be worth bumping it up a bit.

Also make sure your desk will fit these or even a 4k if you go that way as you need a decent distance for either types and not 2-3 feet in front of you like a 1080p monitor can be.

I haven't seen that noted before. Wouldn't you want to be about the same 2-3 feet from the monitor in order to distinguish the extra resolution? I can't imagine the distance from a 27" screen where your eyes can see the difference between 1080 and 1440 is much over a couple of feet.

144hz is only good for fast movement right? 4k is far clearer of a picture isnt it?

144hz is great for fast movement, but also provides incredibly *smooth* movement at all times. It's hard to explain without seeing it, but look at the difference between 30fps and 60fps in a title if you can simulate that through settings/fps locking or whatever, and then imagine doubling that effect.

4k is technically clearer but you may be surprised how little difference you would see between 1440p and 4k at normal viewing distances. Yeah ideally you'd have 4k @120fps or whatever, but for right this second I still recommend higher refresh rates over higher res.

Your best option would be to go to a store and test them out as for most a 24 inch monitor is optimal as you can see everything without having to move your head at this distance and when you go larger you will need to move the monitors back a bit to do so.

A normal desk may be hard to run a 32inch+ 4k monitor and still be comfortable for the user.

I went to Microcenter a few weeks ago, but I never got past the "holy sh** I need one of those" stage.

I am leanign towards the 1440p 144hz but its just not 100% for me. And I hate it not being 100% for me when its a $1000 purchase

Well if you want high end monitors like this they come at a cost as most top of the line stuff does.

You could knock a few hundred off if you didn't want an ips panel or g-sync but then you would suffer and when you get something like this it should last you much longer compared to another monitor that you skimped on and trade it in 2-3 years later because of it so think of it as spending more now to save you more later.

The back light blled on IPs monitors are a huge concern and happen very often. I would hate to buy it and have to go through the pain and frustration of having to return it.

Also, if i only get 60 fps in games max would there be any difference between a 60hz and 144hz monitor at that point?

You should buy a VA monitor. The motion smoothness will be slower but the image quality boost is worth it.

I'll recommend the ASUS pb328q it's a 32" 1440p 75hz VA monitor.

If you can only get ~60 FPS there won't be a difference. BUT - if you have a 144hz monitor you will find many times you'd rather turn a couple settings down and get ~90 fps than keep stuff at ultra and get 60.

Is there a good website that gives you up to date information on monitors and upcoming releases of new tech monitors etc. Seems like the monitors people recommend are jsut monitors that were released a few years ago. There must be new ones coming out. What site would tell me stuff like that?

There is nothing wrong in buying a monitor which was released a few years ago. We have had no significant breakthrough in the last couple of years.
