The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe, a good non-fiction historical account of the hippies, Grateful Dead, Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, etc. and the psychedelic 60's.
Hells Angels by Hunter S. Thompson, good non-fictional history of the Hells Angels in the 60's. I read this last summer.
Here's the twister, a true crime novel. the only true crime novel I've ever read. I was in Eastern Canada in 1995 and there was talk of it everywhere. The crimes wear so horrific that a news blackout was put in place. Canadians were driving to the US to buy newspapers because of the media blackout in Canada. This was some precident. The murders were often called the Barbie and Ken murders, because what seemed to appear as the cute, sweet couple were anything but that. My girlfriend told me I shouldn't read a lot of books like that. I read it in two days, she read it in 1.5 days.
Deadly Innocence by Scott Burnside and Alan Cairns.
The books a good read, I like the feel of turning pages. You won't put the book down. You can also read much of the story here at this link for free. This couple is evil. [

Note: I did not know they made a movie of this. I just got done reading the reviews and the movie has been described as "disturbing...not for everyone," so be warned.
