The only way that ends a whiskey thread is if everyone is laughing at you so hard they can't continue. JWBlue is the ultimate poseurs drink, the proclaimed preferred Scotch of people who don't know anything about Scotch.

Ha, your probably right. As someone who is just getting into scotch I completely agree, though I do really like their green label for some reason.

For the OP I can often find 375mls (I assume thats a mickey, right?) of Glenlevit 12, Glenfiddich 12, or even JW black label. All are acceptable scotch whiskys for ~$20-25 (WA state prices) and are great straight. You can sometimes find other brands in that size but they seem to be rare. I personally prefer single malt to blends but thats simply my taste. In bourbons I've seen Makers Mark (great), Woodford reserve (not great), and the usual suspects (JB, JD, etc...) in 375's all for decent prices.

Also, I would not get anything too fancy if your plan is to finish it while gaming. With the nicer single malts, irish whiskeys, or bourbons I prefer to sip them neat while I'm doing nothing else, otherwise I am distracted from appreciating the flavor.

EDIT** What did you get?

Apologies to piss (Patron), and vinegar (Don Julio)

Los Azulejos Anejo is absolutely the best tequila on the planet.

Interesting. I actually prefer Ketel One to almost anything. Have you tried Hanger One though? That is my ultimate favorite, but it's a little spendy so I usually go Ketel. I think Tito's is a little more "grainy" or something. Maybe I'm just not used to it. It's still awesome stuff for sure.
I think too many people tout Grey Goose as "THE BEST" vodka, when IMO it isn't. It's definitely good though don't get me wrong.

For vodka that most resembles water, I like Chopin the best.

For vodka that tastes like vodka Stoli or Kettle.

I mix Chopin with stuff, so at $80/bottle, I prefer Stoli martinis.

Dude, that's totally me! I've never tried a single malt in my life, but I've got JW Red, Blue, Green, Gold and Blue all in my bar!

Well I got a cheap whisky. Wiser's. Well cheap by the standards of the store I bought it at $13.50 for a mickey. Would have been cheaper at a provincial liquor store.

There is a Bushmill's single malt. Worth looking into.

Tried that at a recent scotch tasting (he threw it in there for good measure) and it was quite good. It lacked the complexity I like with a single malt scotch but it was very smooth. I almost bought a bottle recently but picked up on of their 400th anniversary bottles instead since my local stores are clearing them out for $40 ($100+ original asking price).

EDIT* I was in Whistler back in March and the guy at the liquor store raved about wisers saying it was much better than crown and CC. I don't know which version of Wisers he was comparing to which version of the other whiskys but he was very vocal about how good he thought it was. In his eyes you made a great choice!

Crown Royal Reserve is pretty good on the rocks. If you like it sweet, there is also amaretto.

Yeah that was my other choice but it was something like $16 for a mickey and Wiser's was only 13 so Wiser's it is

Mickey is a 375ml, correct? And if so, does anyone know why it's called that?

Yup 375ml. I guess Mickey Mouse was a raging alcoholic? Been polishing one of these off on my Fridays in about 10mins or so, lol. Become something of a routine. I keep it to just that per week though.

When I used to drink, Crown Royal was my drink of choice. I put away a fifth (750 ml) every night for several years.

(whiskey goes bad if you open the bottle and don't drink it all. Just throw away the cap and finish the damned bottle...no sense in letting it go to waste)

In all that time, I never missed a single day of work because I was too hung over to go to work...and when I got to work, I worked my ass off...to sweat the whiskey out of my system...

A fifth a night! I can put away a fifth quite quickly myself, less than 1 hour. But I ain't going to be going to no work the next day I can tell you that. In fact I'll be feeling that for 2 days or more.

What? Never heard that one before. I'm sure the taste will change somewhat over time due to evaporation but it certainly does not go bad. Heck, I have an 8 year old screw top (I'm told screw top does not create as good of a seal as cork but I can't back that up) bottle of Jamison that still tastes great. I'm sure if I compared it to a brand new bottle the taste would be different but who knows if that was mainly due to age or just the different batches that are known to have slight variation in flavor.

Yes, that is completely false. (Taps sarcasm meter)

Whiskey will not go bad after opening, it should last well over a year. Make sure to store bottles upright, the cork shouldn't be in contact with the whiskey.

The only whiskey I usually drink is single malt scotch, with my bang for your buck choice being Talisker 10 yr for around $55.

For something really cheap, Jameson isn't bad for around $20. It's Irish whiskey and a blend at that, so it's distilled thrice instead of twice, often meaning it's smoother, but less characteristic. This is obviously a steep generalization.
