i'm not much of a reader but im looking to get back into it. and what better time than during a 19 hr flight.

recommend some good sci-fi or thriller books. Im looking for easy enjoyable read. I read some fictions by Crichton (Sphere, Airframe, Jurassic Park, etc). Yea, I know he's not the best author, nor are those books the best examples of sci-fi, but I enjoyed them nevertheless.

Care to recommend some books? If you really liked a book, even if its not sci-fi, mention it. and i'll look into it

If you like Crichton, check out Prey if you haven't read it already. That was probably my favorite book by him.

are you looking for something fun and sci-fi or something deep and thoughtful sci-fi? And by sci-fi do you mean space? or do you mean supernatural/creature type things set in present day?

I agree here, Prey was pretty good.

Prelude to Foundation, Issac Asimov

Then read the rest of the foundation series. Arguably the best series I've ever read.

Since the order is pretty vague on the inside of the books, here's the chronological/story arc order:

1. Prelude to Foundation
2. Forward the Foundation
3. Foundation
4. Foundation and Empire
5. Second Foundation
6. Foundation's Edge
7. Foundation and Earth

They're all equally great, but the prelude is the most traditionally "action packed" of the novels. That said all of them should be extremely enjoyable given what you're used to.

I'm actually reading the foundation trilogy right now -- I'm halfway through second foundation. Quite a good read, although I don't think the original trilogy has 19hrs of read in it, pretty short books. I haven't read the others though.

for space series I recommend the "Culture" series by Iain M. Banks, they are set up as "Space Opera" type books and have won some awards, I found them pretty fun and interesting.

for more present day scifi I recommend the "Repairman Jack" series of books by F. Paul Wilson. Very fast moving, action heavy stories but they are fun generally quick and interesting reads that mix sci-fi style stories with present day events as the story is set up to take place in our current time. Series starts with "The Tomb" and most of the books are page turners.

i dont really have any preference. I havent sat down and read a book in such a long time, that I dont care. as long as i pick up a book to read and come out satisfied.

Looks like local library has prey. I'll check it out
I read Sphere in high school and i remember staying up nights just to read the book. I couldn't put it down.

I liked "Earth" by David Brin.

Microblack holes, gravity lasers, and an emergent consciousness in net just for good measure.

Highly recommended. I've read these a few times and you find something new every read.

I'm currently reading some of the Warhammer 40k novels and they are pretty badass, full of action and sci-fi lore. The best part is that all the novels are pretty much independent of each other and you don't need to know too much about the W40k universe to get hooked in and enjoy them. I started with Eisenhorn and loved it, I'm now reading Ravenor.
