If you watch a decent amount of DVD's I'd look at the Panasonic 42" ED plasma. You can get the industrial model for about $2k now I think...42" of widescreen glory. No onboard speaker though.

I saw him asking for HDTV, not ED.

With $3000 ceiling he could get a really nice DLP.

Seriously, get a Samsung DLP (whatever model you can afford), a fajoura chiped device for deinterlacing ( if not built it) and you are set.

Samsung DLP, probably something in the 40" range. ED = the suck so stay away from dunbar's "advice".

Best image quality will come from a CRT based RPTV. If it were me I would get one of the ~$1000 40-50" CRT RPTVs (actually I would get a CRT Front Projector). Smoother more film like image with better blacks, contrast, and shadow detail to give you a much more 3 dimensional picture. Don't fall for the digital (DLP, LCD, LCOS, Plasma, etc...) is better bs. Invest the rest or buy a nice sound system to go along with your new display device.

Actually EDTV looks better on SDTV which will be the vast majority of programming for years to come. Most people can't see a difference between HDTV on ED or HD plasmas from 8+ feet back. But go ahead and repeat your ignorance...

Well if you're willing to spend some time www.avsforum.com is a great resource.

ED = Enhanced Definition (480 progressive lines of vertical resolution)
SD = Standard Definition (480 interlaced lines of vertical resolution; the vast majority of TV content)
HD = High Definition (Several formats most common are 1080 interlaced or 720 progressive)

Just wait for the Sharp Aquos 45" to drop to your price point... or for Dell to offer a wicked coupon on it (yes, Dell carries it).
