recommend a matx mobo?

I've got most of the parts left over from my last pc, an e6550, 2gb ram, case & psu.

I was thinking of putting together a pc for my mom, she really doesn't do much except email, a surfing and a little light photoshop, so I don't need anything too great, something cheap with decent onboard video would work fine.

Any recommendations?

The P5K-VM and the P5E-VM HDMI are both very good mobos. The I-N73HD Heidfirst mentioned is also good. I'll assume you want a non-overclocking low cost mobo.

Dont go by just the NE reviews though. Read the professional reviews too. If you want better quality you can find the P5K-VM for $100 if you shop around. Plenty of others for under $100. You just have to look around and see what they have in features.

If you're not going to overclock (and you have no need to) then I'd say just go for the cheapest one that officially supports FSB1333, has IGP and has a warranty. Seriously, what would a $130 mATX board like your Asus P5E-VM HDMI give your mother in functionality and performance (knowing what she would use it for) over, say, a $50 motherboard?

How about this budget ECS motherboard? It is $50, -$10 rebate. It uses Nvidia IGP and has DVI as well as VGA. It supports your RAM and CPU. What else do you need?

The Newegg "reviews" aren't the most glowing, but take them with a grain of salt. One single-egg reviewer bought his elsewhere, and claimed to have had three bad ones in a row. A few others knocked off 1-2 eggs because the board doesn't do dual channel RAM. Hello? That's the chipset limitation, not a fault of the board.
