Looks like I need a new mobo

need to replace:

Gigabyte GA-965P revision 1.0

Have a Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz with 2gigs memory at DDR2-800

Would like to have the ability to obviously run a quad core and faster memory.

Do not need wireless or RAID.

Plan on dropping another drive or two (SATA) into the system.

Nothing fancy, just a good reliable and stable board. No overclockign will be done.

THanks.

I've had good luck with Asus motherboards so I will recommend the P5Q SE Plus which is about $100 now.

would that work with my current RAM?

Would like to upgrade my RAM, eventually. Just cant right now.

Of course. It works with DDR2 memory from 667Mhz to 1200Mhz if you overclock.

Honestly you won't need more than DDR2-800. I could go out and buy expensive memory for DDR2-1066/1200 speed but I don't. It doesn't make much difference at all. More is better, more bandwidth doesn't necessarily translate to faster system noticeably.

Any suggestions for a good, stable, reliable board?
Not going to OC the CPU. Will run, eventually, 8gigs of memory when I get Windows 7.

Thanks.

The one I mentioned is good. Asus is a good brand, Gigabyte is also however I have had issues with them. There are mass amounts of people who buy them and love them.

I have two of these EP45-UD3L, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...YTE-_-13128372 , and they work very well at default to slightly overclocked settings. I've read that their rebates are not reliable, though.

I second on the EP45. I had two machines using those boards for a while (before I upgraded them) and they ran just fine on stock settings. If you are not planning on overclocking, then I would suggest an Intel board. Nothing fancy, but it just works.

If you are upgrading RAM, I highly suggest one of these boards with ddr2 and ddr3 slots because 2x2gb of ddr2 is easily $80+ now while ddr3 can be had for $60 and still dropping in price:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...rchResult=True
The $78, $90 and $95 (before tax and shipping) boards have 4 ddr3 slots while the cheaper ones have only 2.

Hmm.

On second thought, I might look into these...especially if DDR3 memory is cheaper.

Much obliged.

Doing that limits how much MAX memory you can add later, unless you buy the more expensive boards with more slots. DDR3 does not increase performance for Socket 775 enough to justify this approach IMO.
