Recommend a monitor for 600ish

2x7950 twin frozr @1100 MHz on 4770k@4600 MHz. Looking to replace 24 inch samsung 2350 24 inch @1080. Really want 27 inch size. 1440 or 120 HZ? Or both with some eBay oc monitor? Gaming and photoshop. I'm not into multi monitor. Currently 180 fps in battlefield3, higher in some older games.

Personally I'd look into a cheaper 1440p panel that is known to overclock well.

With 4k coming down the pipe 1440 is going to be the new 1080p, because of that I wouldn't spend too much.

I'd give the QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution Ⅱ a look. It's using Samsung's latest PLS panels. Supposed to be better than the LG IPS panels. Currently less than $300 on ebay.

I'm not a fan of TN panels at all after going with IPS. So I'd go with IPS or PLS.

Are the 30inchers getting any cheaper with 4k coming? I would possibly check out ZR30W or dell equivalent.

For gaming 4k won't be viable for most people for some time unless you are willing to spend the extra cash for the more powerful GPU hardware. Prices will remain high on the displays themselves too I think, even into next year. I think we may begin to see more usage of them next fall at the earliest. I could be wrong though, but they take a ton of GPU power to run the latest games at similar quality settings as 1440/1600 panels.

That said I have not seen any price drops on the 2560x1600 30" monitors.

Dell has had many reports of QC issues on recently manufactured monitors lately. That is a good price though.

How do you figure that, exactly?

Maybe you meant the new 720p? 1080/720 = 2160/1440 = 1.5. I guess maybe that makes sense.

I think what was meant, and correct me if I'm wrong Balla...is that 1440p will become the low end standard gaming resolution when 4k hits the PC market with any kind of saturation. The way people talk about "At 1080p you'll be fine with a mid range GPU" will become what we say about 2560x1440 later on.
