Played Aion a while ago and now I'm looking into some new releases that's more updated and fun like Aion. Anyone want to make some recommendations? I haven't played WoW but that's a little outdated for me. I want something new on the market.

Aion has only been out for like a year. I don't think there's been any major MMO releases since then.

That will be the game you want to watch/wait for.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Exiled_Realm_of_Arborea

the player targets their enemies with a cross-hair rather than selecting a target to automatically attack, and must actively dodge enemy attacks. The player may use keyboard and mouse, or an Xbox 360 pad to control their character.

pass... if they're going for an action rpg/guild wars angle it could be OK, but no thanks in a real MMO

DC Universe Online (http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/) is the next big MMO that people will switch to (temporarily) and I think it will have about the same popularity over time as Aion. I have no interest in it since it is being produced by SOE, but I imagine it will have a strong 2 to 3 month showing and then people will go back to WoW.

You havent played WoW.. "but it is outdated?".. hmm ok..
WoW is still the best MMO on the market bar none.. December 7th the next expansion hits and the world will be completely rebuilt and DX11 support added.

There hasn't been an MMO released yet that holds even a shadow of a candle to WoW.
Ive tried them all and still end up going back to WoW.
been playing it since Alpha invite only group back in 2002/3 and it hasn't lost it's shine.

This depends entirely on what you want in a game, making such blanket statements is silly. I quit two years ago and haven't missed it for a second.

I prefer P2P over F2P because I end up spending more on F2P. You really need to spend money on F2P to be doing good in the game and I end up spending more than P2P. I quit Aion because I refused spending a whole month farming for the lvl 50 Deava armor.

WoW sucks.

However, there isn't really much on the market worth playing, including WoW.

Rift looks like it may be the next bigger launch in fantasy MMORPG. Not sure when it's going to be released though.

yeh that's what I didn't like about Aion as well.

That and the grind was a bit much for me overall..

FFXI just as long, RO 2-3x as long, NWN 4-5x as long (and still going). WoW's brilliant in it's own right, they've done an amazing job making people come back time and again for the exact same thing with higher numbers and a few more polygons. It's the gold standard as far as making money is concerned, but I found it to be one of the least engaging and most dumbed down games around. Unless you really, really, really love collecting crap.

gotcha.. for your MMO fix you seem to prefer the Asian style "grinder" nothing wrong with that.
Myself now that I'm getting older (40)I prefer the faster easier attraction of WoW.. and raiding is the challenging part for me. If the game is too long to max level or the levels themselves are too long I lose interest.

WoW is successful here in the states mainly for that reason where FF L2 RO and others do better overseas Asia specifically.

You know WoW has arrived when you hear people talking about it in the corporate lunchroom and 12 outa 20 of my IT coworkers including our CIO and her Directors all play WoW fanatically. And that seems to be the same at the last 3 large corporations Ive worked for over the last 6 years. (including Chevron Corporate just for an Idea of how large these companies I'm talking about are.)
Hell even My GFs Orthopedic Surgeon who is about my age also admitted to having several L80s and being an active raider.
Seriously? these are all people that in the past would have never even thought of playing an MMO.

I think the numbers speak for themselves 12 million active WoW subscribers.. that's insane.

WoW is all about grind, it just uses different mechanisms. Traditionally the grind is gaining XP.

Sure you level fast(er) in WoW, but then you just get stuck in the ratrace to get better items to kill bigger monsters to get better items to kill bigger monsters to get better items to kill bigger monsters ad nauseum. Or you grind honor. Or grind rep. Or farm (grind) pets. Or farm (grind) tabards. Or grind titles. Or grind achievements. If you love collecting crap and really think it's enjoyable content, then more power to you. Personally once I had some decent gear, maxxed my crafts and more gold than I could spend I found no reason to log in and paying to wait around for the next patch/expansion really isn't that appealing.

Killing dragons(or other players) with friends is what WoW boils down to if you can't enjoy that or get obsessed with getting the next item than yea you're going to burn out fast because without that it really is just another grind game. Really just the boss fights themselves are tons of fun and a lot of the grindiness of instances has been toned down (compared to say molten core when everyone was just hitting 60). Wandering the world collecting stuff is actually fun too in WoW moreso than most other MMOs atleast.

Wait you guys all changed the subject. LoL. I'm patiently waiting for Guild Wars 2 to come out. Still pondering about what other games we should all anticipate. Hmm?

I'm interested in Knights of the Republic Online. Of course, there was some bad press about it not to long ago. I'm sure I'll still play it for myself to see how it is though.

The other one I'm interested in is Blade and Soul. It's a martial arts mmo, made by NCSoft, like Aion and City of Heroes. Has alot of interesting things they are trying to do. I guess I'll wait and see how they are implemented before I pass judgement on it.

Also, I have yet to actually see a release date on this. And the website hasn't changed much in a long time.
