the player targets their enemies with a cross-hair rather than selecting a target to automatically attack, and must actively dodge enemy attacks. The player may use keyboard and mouse, or an Xbox 360 pad to control their character.
You havent played WoW.. "but it is outdated?".. hmm ok..
WoW is still the best MMO on the market bar none.. December 7th the next expansion hits and the world will be completely rebuilt and DX11 support added.
There hasn't been an MMO released yet that holds even a shadow of a candle to WoW.
Ive tried them all and still end up going back to WoW.
been playing it since Alpha invite only group back in 2002/3 and it hasn't lost it's shine.
This depends entirely on what you want in a game, making such blanket statements is silly. I quit two years ago and haven't missed it for a second.
I prefer P2P over F2P because I end up spending more on F2P. You really need to spend money on F2P to be doing good in the game and I end up spending more than P2P. I quit Aion because I refused spending a whole month farming for the lvl 50 Deava armor.
and what MMO are you playing now then that kept your attention as long as WoW did?
there arent any.. they are all dead or dying or going F2P just to stay alive.
FFXI just as long, RO 2-3x as long, NWN 4-5x as long (and still going). WoW's brilliant in it's own right, they've done an amazing job making people come back time and again for the exact same thing with higher numbers and a few more polygons. It's the gold standard as far as making money is concerned, but I found it to be one of the least engaging and most dumbed down games around. Unless you really, really, really love collecting crap.
WoW is all about grind, it just uses different mechanisms. Traditionally the grind is gaining XP.
Sure you level fast(er) in WoW, but then you just get stuck in the ratrace to get better items to kill bigger monsters to get better items to kill bigger monsters to get better items to kill bigger monsters ad nauseum. Or you grind honor. Or grind rep. Or farm (grind) pets. Or farm (grind) tabards. Or grind titles. Or grind achievements. If you love collecting crap and really think it's enjoyable content, then more power to you. Personally once I had some decent gear, maxxed my crafts and more gold than I could spend I found no reason to log in and paying to wait around for the next patch/expansion really isn't that appealing.
Killing dragons(or other players) with friends is what WoW boils down to if you can't enjoy that or get obsessed with getting the next item than yea you're going to burn out fast because without that it really is just another grind game. Really just the boss fights themselves are tons of fun and a lot of the grindiness of instances has been toned down (compared to say molten core when everyone was just hitting 60). Wandering the world collecting stuff is actually fun too in WoW moreso than most other MMOs atleast.
