Recommend a new place to live

I have lived in Florida for a LONG time and have loved it here but 4 hurricanes in 2 months is enough! Looking for recommendations for a new homestead. We are looking for a locale with moderate temps and a good standard of living. Being located near (within 50 miles) of a military post/facility is a plus.

One suggestion might be to find the issue of Money magazine where they list the top places to live in the U.S. I'm not recommending that you follow their recommendation because I'm sure swarms of people are heading to those areas. However, the data provided in the article and supplimental tables are very informative. You can find out lots about the taxes, crime, schools, etc. from this information. I'm sure such information would contribute greatly towards your decision process.

Depends on your personality / tastes in weather / etc., but if I relocate, and I hope to at some point, I'll be taking a good look at Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Especially if Bush gets reelected.

Clean city, nice air/water, forests, mountains (snowboarding/ski), beach (surfing, windsurfing but needs wet suit), moderate temperatures, and moderate cost of living.
