The Patek collectors I know don't collect Patek Quartz watches. All hard to get automatic Pateks in various precious metals.

Which is fine, but its not just about the movement when it comes to watches. The gaudy ugly as shit $55 million is proof.

But to most collectors it's the most important thing. Rappers and some other people love flashy watches with diamonds (ie gaudy ones that are ugly, messing up a perfectly good watch). WIS are not about that at all.

It's been my deciding factor, but I'm coming from a nerd POV.

FRom what I've read, based on movements

Tag <newer Omega movements = (debatable) rolex

I don't know enough about this, but something about omega's new coax movement being equal to rolex's exceptional movement (or not far behind)?

That is more of a piece of jewelry than a watch. You are paying for the jewels.

That is like calling an old run down junky farmhouse in Iowa a $10 million house, when it was the 2,000 acres of arable land that made it worth 10 million.

You are finding one off odd ball situations to prop up your point because you know you're wrong

Wait, so I show you proof of a quartz watch that's expensive and you tell me I am wrong? I don't give a rats ass what you call it, the FACT is quartz watches exist at insane prices, so you are the one who is wrong.

You are using an anomaly and false logic to prove a failed point.

If I say, "cars are not expensive."

You would retort, "well a 250 GTO sold for $30m!!!!!"

If a rare potato chip that was previously owned by Queen Elizabeth sells at auction for $10k, that does not make the statement "potato chips are inexpensive" a false statement.

Are you just trying to play internet tough guy by find obscure loopholes to try to prove someone wrong when you know you're the one whose wrong? What are you trying to prove.

I made a general statement, "quartz watches suck from a collecting, high end standpoint." They do. That is a fact.

You retort with some asinine one off example that you think negates my entire statement.

Get some fresh air dude. You're been on the internet too long.

OK, let's get real technical.

The watch you showed in your link was a Patek Twenty-4 Mini Watch. It says in the article it costs $285k.

Reality check, that same exact picture is shown here on an actual grey market retailers website for $39k:
http://www.jomashop.com/patek-4908-11r.html

So that is in fact NOT a six figure Patek. Next time link a credible website.

One more time, show me a six figure quartz Patek.

That's what I thought.

Go read the article on the six figure watch, they seem to be talking about a different one than the picture. WHITE gold, etc etc.

Find me a six figure quartz Patek. If the website cannot get the picture right, obviously they are not credible. It's just linkbait they made up.

This is the watch it sounds like they're trying to reference:
http://www.jomashop.com/patek-24-white-gold-watch-4909-50g.html

But it's not a quartz, it's mechanical wind.

Still waiting for that six figure quartz Patek.....

**update**
sorry for the long delay, just got back from torneaue, purchased a vintage omega seamaster in fantastic condition with a 2 year warranty - woot! I noticed an engraving that they need to buff out (or replace the backing), can't wait! My dad also brought along a zenith from his personal collection that they will be refurbishing and handing over to me, which is exciting since I've loved the watch since I was a kid. i honestly would have been happy with just that, but I'm learning not to turn down nice things, because I'm just renting them until I hand them over to my kids. The most ironic thing is that I'm scared to wear either on the NYC subway so will be locking them up and just ordered a $15 used HMT watch to wear as my daily driver, made in india like him.

I don't think anyone would notice a watch as long as it's not made of gold. I wear my yacht-master almost daily.

^great reviews on that one lurker
I use this watch to keep the orderlies on schedule with washing my yacht, waxing the Bentley(s), and provides added weight to a good strong backhand when my accountant doesn't count my money fast enough. Without it, I'd have $40k still in my pocket next to my cell phone, that also has a clock on it.

My only complaint is the price of this watch. That's why I bought two and wear them on both wrists so people can tell right away who the REAL yacht-master is.
