I asked this question a couple weeks ago in This Thread and got many great responses. You may want to take a peek, sound like your hardware specs are similar...

you could also try SOLDAT - it's a great little 2D shooter game. Pretty addictive too

Fallout 1 & 2. And this time I won't get flamed since this isn't for 11 year-old this time, I'm betting.

Would the vid card limit my ability to run MAME and some of the old PlayStation games? or would I need to go back further and play missle command and Joust?

Fallout 1 & 2 are available together in a jewel case edition that goes for as low as $9.99. Can find it just about anywhere.

I've been playing Fallout: Tactics for the last few months. Very addictive. I got it cheap at gogamer.com

Also, if you don't mind some dated graphics, XCOM (~circa 1995) was a great game. I've seen it in bargain bins for $5, or you might find it free on some abandonware sites. I dunno if it works OK with W98 or W2K, but I'm sure others here could tell you.

I've played both of the above for months at a time. Both are TBS....turn based strategy. I'm still trying to find a true XCOM experience. So far, IME, Fallout: Tactics and Jagged Alliance 2 have come the closest, but not quite the same feel.

And, I've already mentioned HOMM 2 and 3....specially if you can find them cheap. HOMM 4 might push your system too much, and they say it isn't that great an improvement anyway (mediocre reviews--my bro says it's dog slow on his cel 550 w/16MB TNT vid card).

Long live StarCraft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: you can actually play Half-Life/CS on that machine and it'll run fine. I used to run CS beta on a P2 333 desktop, 8mb i740, 64mb. Granted, it took like 2-3 minutes to join a game, but once in I was getting 30-40fps at 1024.
