Recommend good movies for me and the missus tonight (home TV)

A good drama or action or dramedy, as long as it's a good time. We love foreign films too as long as they're great.

Stuff we like:
Scorsese flicks
Tarantino flicks (Inglorious Basterds is amazing, Kill Bill 1 & 2 are just great story telling, esp 2)
Ghibli flicks (Spirited Away)
Pixar flicks
'Intelligent' Scifi (Children of Men, Gattaca, The Martian, Interstellar, etc)
The Family Man (Nicholas Cage's best)
Any decent comedy (21 Jump Street, etc)

The problem is we saw most of them... and must be ready for home viewing (not theater).

I think Cinema Paradiso is streaming on Netflix.

If you like romantic, nostalgic movies that's one of the best. It's as Italian and Italian gets, in a very good way, and has some of the best music Morricone ever wrote. I try to avoid watching it too often because it always makes me shed a tear. I think the older I get the harder it seems to hit me at a raw emotional level.

If you do watch it make sure you stay away from the incredibly awful director's cut.

Something about LA riot in Ktown and develops a relationship with a black girl or something. Didn't want to read further to spoil it.

Arctic (2018) was amazing (just came out) - that villain from Casino Royale (Craig 007) KILLS it.

It's funny about that one. The heroes stand out in my memory as making that a great movie. Then I re-watched it, and the villain was a Nazi. The original German kind. That kind of made the movie too clichéd for me. Like they tried to make a great movie but tacked on the villain from a leftover Indiana Jones script.

A movie I like was The Italian Job. Either the original or the remake, but I'm slightly partial to the remake. The premise makes the heroes slightly less criminal, as I recall.

Europa Report is intelligent scifi of the last several years, but you probably already saw it when it came to Netflix a few years ago. Note, looks like it's gone and no longer on netflix. They have Moon, but, you probably already saw that too.
Ex Machina is on Netflix, and it's good.

I have to watch "the Family Man" as I never got around to it ...

I suspect you may have seen them all but I love his directing so much, so I recommend all Jean-Pierre Jeunet films in order of preference: Amelie, Micmacs, City of Lost Children, A Very Long Engagement, Delicatessen, and even TS Spivet

Alphaville was weird and awesome, 60s french Scifi/film noir.

Several of Tarantino's films can be considered "neo noir", so you may wish to visit history and watch some film noir classics. You may just get a similar vibe and sense of mystery.
If you are a criterion subscriber, look at their "Columbia Noir" collection, the Fritz Lang classics The Big Heat and Human Desire are excellent.

It's free on Amazon Prime. Good post-apocalyptic "zombie" movie with strong female lead characters - Not the sexualized types that some people find offensive. Similar in some ways to 28-Days Later.
